Inleiding
De ijzeren OPHAALBRUG, gedateerd 1910, ligt over het Oostervallaat in de Zuider Ee. Het vallaat, dat in 1862 geheel is vernieuwd, is reeds beschermd monument (nr. 13172). De vallaatmeesterswoning uit 1915 is in 1976 vervangen door een bungalow. De vernieuwing van de brug in 1910 valt samen met de ontwikkeling van het gebied rondom het voormalige station (1901) van de Noord Friesche Lokaal Spoorwegmaatschappij. De Stationsbuurt ligt juist ten noorden van het vallaat op het grondgebied van de toenmalige gemeente Oost-Dongeradeel. De weg erover vormde de verbinding tussen twee hoofdwegen binnen de gemeente, namelijk de weg naar Metslawier en de weg naar Oostrum/Ee.
Omschrijving
De val van de brug bestaat uit hout op ijzeren liggers met I-profiel. Het brugdek kan worden bewogen door een draailierconstructie met rechte heugelstang aan één van de staanders van de hameipoort. Aan de broekbalk zit nog het oog van de ophaalketting. De staanders van de hameipoort bestaan uit geklonken ijzer, gemerkt HOMECOURT 12 en GUTE HOFFNUNGSHUTTE No 18. De poort is met dubbele langsschoren in de grond verankerd. Aan de voor- en achterzijde van de opengewerkte en getoogde hameipoort is een gietijzeren rolwerkcartouche met het jaartal 1910. Op het balanspunt staat een pyloon met verstaging naar de sprieten en de broekbalken. De bovenbouw bestaat uit I-profiel balken gemerkt HOESCH NP 20 en zijn aan de balans gebout. De sprieten zijn onderling verbonden door dwarsbalken en diagonaalstaven. De sprieten en het brugdek zijn verbonden door kettingen.
Waardering
