Inleiding
SCHUIFSTUW met kleine schutsluis, 1929. Gebouwd in opdracht van Rijkswaterstaat. Gesitueerd in de Maas bij Borgharen, bij het begin van het Julianakanaal. De schutsluis is voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
De schuifstuw van Borgharen, bestaande uit vijf betonnen torenpijlers, stalen schuiven en een stalen bedieningsbrug, beschikt over drie afvoeropeningen en één scheepvaartopening. De scheepvaartopening kenmerkt zich door hogere torenpijlers, waartussen één wielschuif (dit in tegenstelling tot de Midden-Limburgse Maasstuwen, die voorzien zijn van wielschuiven ondersteund door wegklapbare jukken). De drie afvoeropeningen hebben elk een wielschuif met verstelbare klep.
Waardering
De schuifstuw te Borgharen is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een technologische en typologische ontwikkeling en ontleent architectuurhistorische waarde aan haar importantie voor de geschiedenis van de bouwtechniek.
