Inleiding
Eclectische, omstreeks 1900 verbouwde POORTWACHTERSWONING.
Het oorspronkelijke pand dateerde waarschijnlijk uit de 18e eeuw.
Omstreeks 1900 werd dit pand van een tweede bouwlaag voorzien. Het pand is gesitueerd aan de Sint Pieterstraat met de kopse gevel aansluitend op de middeleeuwse waterpoort van de tweede omwalling. In een kluisje werd de sleutel van de stadspoort bewaard.
Omschrijving
De voormalige poortwachterswoning heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond, telt thans twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een zadeldak met leien. Twee dakkapellen met zadeldakjes met leien en nokpionnen. Topgevels bekroond met smeedijzeren windvaan.
Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen, hardsteen en pleisterwerk. De eerste bouwlaag is voorzien van pleisterwerk met een imitatievoeg.
Rechthoekige houten deuren en vensters, vensters tweede bouwlaag met segmentboogvormige glas in lood bovenlichten.
Rechterdeel frontgevel iets vooruitspringend en uitlopend in een topgevel met overstek op houten consoles. In deze topgevel twee blinde nissen met driepas. Eerste bouwlaag met pleisterwerk met rusticamotief.
Vensters met ongeprofileerde omlijstingen in hardsteen. Tussen eerste en tweede bouwlaag een waterlijst. In de tweede bouwlaag vier vensters en in het risalerende geveldeel twee gekoppelde vensters onder segmentbogen, die weer onderling verbonden zijn door een getande lijst van zwarte baksteen. Vensters tweede bouwlaag met hardstenen dorpelstenen.
Rechterzijgevel eveneens uitlopend in een topgevel met dak met overstek rustend op houten consoles. In deze topgevel een houten balkon met hierboven een ronde klok.
Linkerzijgevel uitlopend in een trapgevel. Achtergevel met rechthoekige houten vensters met segmentboogvormige bovenlichten in gekleurd glas.
Hardstenen dorpelstenen.
INTERIEURindeling gewijzigd, overigens niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering
De voormalige poortwachterwoning is cultuurhistorisch van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Het pand bezit architectuurhistorische waarden wegens het belang voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Het pand bezit ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van het beschermd stadsgezicht Maastricht en wegens de situering nabij het stadspark en is daarmee van bijzondere betekenis voor voor het aanzien van de stad. Het pand is tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de typologische zeldzaamheid.

Around 1900 this building was given a second storey. The building is situated on Sint Pieterstraat with the end gable adjoining the medieval water gate of the second town walls. The key to the city gate was kept in a small box.
Description
The former gatehouse lodge has a rectangular plan placed lengthwise, now has two storeys and is covered with a gabled roof with slate. Two roof dormer windows with small gabled roofs with slate and ridge ornaments. Gable ends crowned with wrought iron weather vane.
The building materials used are brick, ashlar and plasterwork. The first storey is provided with plasterwork with imitation jointing.
Rectangular wooden doors and windows, second-storey windows with segmental arch-shaped leaded glass fanlights.
Right part of front facade projecting slightly and terminating in a gable end with overhang on wooden consoles. In this gable end two blind niches with trefoil. First storey with plasterwork with rustication motif.

In the second storey four windows and in the projecting facade section two paired windows under segmental arches, which are in turn connected to each other by a toothed course of black brick. Right side facade likewise terminating in a gable end with roof with overhang resting on wooden consoles. In this gable end a wooden balcony with above it a round clock.
Left side facade terminating in a stepped gable. Back facade with rectangular wooden windows with segmental arch-shaped leaded glass fanlights in coloured glass.
Ashlar sill stones.
INTERIOR layout altered, otherwise not worthy of protection.
Valuation
The former gatehouse lodge is of cultural-historical importance as a distinctive expression of a socio-economic and typological development. The building possesses architectural-historical values owing to its importance for the supra-regional history of architecture, the distinctive use of materials and the ornamentation. The building possesses ensemble values as part of the protected townscape of Maastricht and owing to its location near the municipal park and is thereby of particular significance for the appearance of the city. The building is finally of general importance owing to the architectural integrity of its exterior and the typological rarity.
