Inleiding
PAARDENDRINKBAK en STRAATKLOK, XIX B, gesitueerd in de lengte-as van de zgn. Percee tussen St.Servatiusbrug en spoorwegstation.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig, geornamenteerd gietijzeren rooster geplaatste paardendrinkbak in de vorm van een zuil met teerlingkapiteel. Boven het kapiteel een drinkschaal voor paarden met een leeuwekop als waterspuwer en een bekroning in de vorm van een granaatappel. Aan de voet van de zuil bevindt zich een drinkbak voor kleinere dieren met een hondekop als waterspuwer. Achter de drinkbak een gietijzeren straatklok op een ronde, enigszins toelopende basis, waarboven een vaasornament, een zuil met cannelures, een Corinthisch kapiteel en een rond uurwerk met een achtkante bekroning. Op de basis van de klok is nog een deel van de fabrikantennaam te lezen "....NGERHÜTTE"
Waardering
De drinkbak en de straatklok zijn van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de esthetische kwaliteit, het materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Als geheel behoren zij tot het beschermd stadsgezicht Maastricht, zijn vanwege de situering in de Percee ten zeerste verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de stad en zijn van groot belang voor het aanzien van de stad. HORSE TROUGH and STREET CLOCK, second half of the 19th century, situated along the longitudinal axis of the so-called Percee between the St. Servatius Bridge and the railway station.
Description
Placed on a rectangular, ornamented cast-iron grate, a horse trough in the form of a column with a cubic capital. Above the capital a drinking bowl for horses with a lion's head as a water spout and a finial in the form of a pomegranate. At the base of the column is a drinking bowl for smaller animals with a dog's head as a water spout. Behind the trough a cast-iron street clock on a round, slightly tapered base, above which a vase ornament, a column with fluting, a Corinthian capital and a round timepiece with an octagonal finial. On the base of the clock a portion of the maker's name is still legible "....NGERHÜTTE"
Valuation
The trough and the street clock are of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a typological development. The architectural-historical values are determined by the aesthetic quality, the use of materials and the ornamentation. As a whole they form part of the protected townscape of Maastricht, are on account of their location in the Percee very closely connected with the city's development and are of great importance for the appearance of the city. The trough and street clock possess a high degree of integrity, are of importance for the structural and visual integrity of Wyck and possess high typological and functional rarity value.
