Inleiding
Eclectisch CAFÉ-WOONHUIS genaamd Café Victoria, 1888, gebouwd naar een ontwerp van architect J.W. Blijenburg in opdracht van C. Marres. Het pand is gesitueerd op de hoek van de Wycker Brugstraat en de Wycker Grachtstraat.
Omschrijving
Hoekpand met een L-vormige plattegrond. Het pand telt drie bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een afgeplat mansardedak met leien in Maasdekking.
Dakkapellen met houten frontons en klauwstukken. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen en hardsteen. Baksteen in kruisverband. De plint is bekleed met hardsteen. Souterrainvensters met roosters. Plint geaccentueerd met hardstenen cordonlijst. De hoofdingang is in de afgeschuinde hoekpartij geplaatst en heeft een dubbele paneeldeur en glas in lood bovenlichten. Gevels met speklagen en rijk stucwerk.
Afgeschuinde hoekpartij met in tweede en derde bouwlaag een erker. Dit geveldeel uitlopend in een uietoren met hierop een lantaarn.
Geveldeel Wijcker Grachtstraat telt twee vensterassen, het geveldeel aan de Wijcker Brugstraat telt vijf vensterassen. In de eerste bouwlaag rondboogvormige vensters met glas in lood bovenlichten met roedeverdeling. In de tweede bouwlaag segmentboogvormige vensters. In de derde bouwlaag rondboogvormige vensters.
Kroonlijst met decoratief tegelwerk. Zeer rijk stucwerk: sluitstenen in de eerste bouwlaag met decoraties in de vorm van wijndruiven, wijnbekers, diamantkoppen. Dubbele erker eveneens met rijk stucwerk.
Consoles met leeuwenkoppen. Venster- en deuromlijstingen deels in stucwerk.
In geveldeel Wijcker Brugstraat in middendeel tweede bouwlaag over twee vensterassen een balkon met balustrade. Balkonconsoles met decoraties in de vorm van mythologische figuren. Rechtergeveldeel risalerend met in de eerste bouwlaag deur en bovenlicht met decoratieve stucwerk omlijsting en in tweede bouwlaag halfrond balkon met balustrade.
INTERIEUR vrijwel geheel gemoderniseerd.
Waardering
Het hoekpand Wijcker Brugstraat 24,24b is van architectuurhistorische waarde wegens het belang voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Het pand is als onderdeel van de Wycker Percee een zeer belangrijk onderdeel in het beschermde stadsgezicht, is vanwege deze situering ten zeerste verbonden met de ontwikkeling/uitbreiding van de stad en van zeer bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van de stad. Het pand is van belang vanwege de hoge mate van gaafheid van het exterieur en is van grote importantie in relatie tot de structurele en visuele gaafheid van de stedelijke omgeving. Bovendien is er sprake van een hoge mate van architectuurhistorische zeldzaamheid.
