Inleiding
Drie identieke GRAFMONUMENTEN in de vorm van antieke hardstenen sarcofagen, 1846, 1848, 1889. Geplaatst in een driehoekige figuratie. Als geheel prominent gesitueerd op de begraafplaats aan de Tongerseweg.
Omschrijving
De drie hardstenen sarcofagen worden aan de lange zijden bekroond door frontons, waarin een grafkrans met ranken in hoogreliëf. De korte zijden bekroond door frontons met zandlopers in hoogreliëf. De hoeken zijn voorzien van acroteria. Op de eerste sarcofaag aan de lange voorzijde het opschrift "Rosa Maria Johanna van Meeuwen, weduwe van Pieter Daniel Eugenius MacPherson en van Florent Baron Prisse. Geboren te 's-Hertogenbosch 31 juli 1801, gestorven te Nice 4 december 1889". Op de korte voorzijde het familiewapen Van Meeuwen, crucifix op de korte achterzijde.
De tweede sarcofaag draagt het opschrift "Petrus Andreas van Meeuwen, staatsraad, lid der ridderschap van Noord-Brabant, geboren te s'-Hertogenbosch 27 januari 1772, gestorven te Maastricht 19 augustus 1848". Familiewapen en crucifix op de korte zijden.
De derde sarcofaag behoort toe aan een voormalig gouverneur van het hertogdom Limburg en draagt op de lange zijden het opschrift: "Pieter Daniel Eugenius MacPherson Staatsraad Gouverneur van 't Hertogdom Limburg", "Geboren te Armentières den 4den April 1792 Gestorven te Maastricht Den 19den January 1846". Op de korte zijden het dodenmasker en profil en zijn wapen, zonder helm, maar met helmteken: een zittende hond, en als schildhouders twee geharnaste en gehelmde mannen, gewapend met schilden, wapenspreuk.
Waardering
De drie hardstenen sarcofagen zijn van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele, sociale, geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de vormgeving, de esthetische kwaliteiten, de ornamentiek en het materiaalgebruik. De drie sarcofagen vormen een zeer belangrijk onderdeel van de begraafplaats aan de Tongerseweg en hebben als zodanig een historisch ruimtelijke relatie met de aanleg van de begraafplaats. De drie sarcofagen zijn in hoge mate gaaf en beschikken over een grote mate van typologische zeldzaamheid.

The three sandstone sarcophagi are crowned on the long sides by pediments, in which a wreath of flowers with tendrils in high relief. The short sides crowned by pediments with hourglasses in high relief. The corners are provided with acroteria. On the first sarcophagus on the long front side the inscription "Rosa Maria Johanna van Meeuwen, widow of Pieter Daniel Eugenius MacPherson and of Florent Baron Prisse. Born at 's-Hertogenbosch 31 July 1801, died at Nice 4 December 1889". On the short front side the family coat of arms Van Meeuwen, crucifix on the short rear side.
The second sarcophagus bears the inscription "Petrus Andreas van Meeuwen, privy councillor, member of the knighthood of North Brabant, born at 's-Hertogenbosch 27 January 1772, died at Maastricht 19 August 1848". Family coat of arms and crucifix on the short sides.
