Inleiding

Introduction

SEXTON'S HOUSE of the Mennonite Congregation in Graft-Noordeinde, built in 1881 north of the Mennonite Vermaning from 1874 (Noordeinde 18) in traditional-craft, regional building style.

Description

The sexton's house is built on a rectangular plan with an extension on the rear side (E), which is of secondary importance.

The house consists of one storey under a gabled roof with black glazed tiles. The front facade (W) has a bell-shaped wooden frontispiece (renewed) with a six-pane sash window in the centre. The frontage is constructed of brick in half-brick bond on a cemented plinth and contains two six-pane sash windows next to a door with tree-of-life fanlight. A step has been placed in front of the door. The side facades consist of horizontal wooden boards (rabat) on a brick plinth. Along the side facades and the rear facade a wooden gutter on corbels has been fitted.

The rear facade (E) is also entirely of wood on a brick plinth. The frontage consists of horizontal boards (rabat) with a six-pane window and a door (which is obscured from view by an extension), the gable top of vertical boards (rabat) with originally in the middle a shutter with a three-pane fanlight. The gable top is also provided with wind vanes and a finial.

Valuation

The sexton's house is of general importance from an architectural and cultural-historical point of view, because of the largely intact main form and detailing, the material use and as a historical-functional component of the Vermaning complex.
