Omschrijving Voorschoterlaan 54.
Inleiding:
HERENHUIS in de oostelijke rooilijn van de Voorschoterlaan, circa 1905 gebouwd in neo-Byzantijnse trant naar ontwerp van het Rotterdamse architectenbureau C. Bruijnzeel en zonen.
NB De naam van de architect is op een koperen plaatje rechtsonder op de gevel aangebracht.
Omschrijving:
Drie bouwlagen tellend woonhuis met een laag zadeldak bedekt met Lucas IJsbrandspannen. Op een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken in rode baksteen boven een natuurstenen plint van onregelmatige (opus incertum) bazaltblokken binnen een granieten omlijsting.
Op de begane grond bevinden zich boven de plint twee rondboogvensters met houten schuifkozijnen met alleen in de bovenlichten een onderverdeling.
Alle rollagen worden geaccentueerd door sluitstenen van natuursteen met een Byzantijns ornament, dat zich herhaalt op de cassettes van de houten deur van de entree geheel links op de begane grond. Boven de entree en het rechter venster een vierkante gevelsteen.
In het midden van de eerste verdieping een houten erker onder een halfrond puntdak met geprofileerde daklijst. Tussen licht gedecoreerde stijlen drie vensters met in de bovenlichten gekoppelde rondbogen. De erker wordt gesteund door een natuurstenen console met gemetseld vulwerk en geflankeerd door vensters in dezelfde trant als op de begane grond maar van een iets kleinere schaal.
De tweede verdieping heeft links en rechts kleine tweelichten met natuurstenen deelzuiltjes en dorpels. Hiertussen, boven het dak van de erker, twee kleine rondboogvensters. Boven de bogen kraagt de gevel iets uit tot aan de geprofileerde daklijst. Het achterliggende zadeldak is bekleed met blauwgrijze halfronde leien.
Waardering:
Herenhuis in zuivere neo-Byzantijnse stijl van algemeen belang wegens architectuurhistorische waarde, alsook representatief voor het gevelarchitectuur-oeuvre van architect C.Bruijnzeel.

Description:
Residential house of three storeys with a low gabled roof covered with Lucas IJsbrands tiles. Constructed on a rectangular ground plan in red brick above a natural stone plinth of irregular (opus incertum) basalt blocks within a granite frame.
On the ground floor above the plinth there are two semicircular arch windows with wooden sash frames with subdivision only in the fanlights.
All courses are accentuated by natural stone voussoirs with a Byzantine ornament, which repeats itself on the cassettes of the wooden door of the entrance entirely on the left on the ground floor. Above the entrance and the right window a square facade stone.
In the centre of the first storey a wooden bay window beneath a semicircular pitched roof with moulded roof line. Between lightly decorated mullions three windows with coupled semicircular arches in the fanlights. The bay window is supported by a natural stone console with masonry infill and flanked by windows in the same manner as on the ground floor but of a slightly smaller scale.
The second storey has on the left and right small two-light windows with natural stone half-columns and sills. Between these, above the roof of the bay window, two small semicircular arch windows. Above the arches the facade projects slightly to the moulded roof line. The recessed gabled roof behind is covered with blue-grey half-round slates.
Valuation:
Gentleman's house in pure neo-Byzantine style of general importance due to its architectural-historical value, as well as being representative of the facade architecture work of architect C. Bruijnzeel.
