Omschrijving Voorschoterlaan 44.
Inleiding:
HERENHUIS met trapgevel in opvallende Hollandse neo-Renaissancestijl, gelegen aan de oostelijke rooilijn van de Voorschoterlaan. Gebouwd circa 1905, naar ontwerp van C. Bruijnzeel en zonen.
NB De naam van de architect is op een koperen plaatje rechtsonder op de gevel aangebracht.
Omschrijving:
Het uit twee bouwlagen en een kapverdieping bestaande herenhuis is in rode baksteen opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het half achter de trapgevel schuilgaande zadeldak is bekleed met grijze platte Friese pannen.
Op de begane grond bevindt zich geheel links de ingangspartij: een houten deur voorzien van ijzerbeslag met erboven en links ernaast getoogde bovenlichten met glas-in-lood vensters gevat in gedecoreerde houten kozijnen. Dit alles onder een geprofileerde houten waterlijst. Rechts in dezelfde trant een drieledige vensterpui.
In het bovenliggend gevelvlak vier smeedijzeren muurankers en onder de vensters van de eerste verdieping siermetselverband.
De drie vensters -geïnspireerd op kruisvensters- op de eerste verdieping zijn rechthoekig met glas-in-lood bovenlichten en aan weerszijden voorzien van houten (sier)luiken met rood-wit geverfd wapen.
Boven de vensters kraagt de gevel iets uit op korfbogen, met in de aanzet hardstenen gebeeldhouwde engelenkopjes. In de boogruggen natuurstenen en in de boogtrommels metselmozaïeken. Hierboven twee ijzeren muurankers. Links een geprofileerde dakgoot en in het zadeldak een kleine dakkapel met zinken puntdakje. Rechts de trapgevel, afgezet met natuursteen, met in het midden een kleiner vierkant venster in dezelfde trant als de overige vensters voorzien van een boogbrug. In de top van de gevel herhaalt zich het wapen van de luiken op een ronde ingemetselde steen.
Waardering:
Herenhuis in Hollandse neo-Renaissance trant van algemeen belang wegens architectuurhistorische waarde, alsook representatief voor het gevelarchitectuur-oeuvre van architect C. Bruijnzeel.

GENTLEMAN'S HOUSE with stepped gable in striking Dutch neo-Renaissance style, situated on the eastern building line of the Voorschoterlaan. Built circa 1905, after a design by C. Bruijnzeel and sons.
NB The name of the architect is affixed on a copper plaque on the lower right of the facade.
Description:
The gentleman's house, consisting of two storeys and an attic storey, is constructed in red brick on a rectangular ground plan. The gabled roof, partially concealed behind the stepped gable, is covered with grey flat Frisian tiles.
On the ground floor the entrance section is located entirely on the left: a wooden door fitted with iron fittings with arched fanlights with leaded glass windows in decorated wooden frames above and to the left of it. All this beneath a moulded wooden drip moulding. To the right in the same manner a three-light window display.
In the facade plane above four wrought-iron wall anchors and below the windows of the first storey decorative brickwork pattern.
The three windows – inspired by cross windows – on the first storey are rectangular with leaded glass fanlights and provided on either side with wooden (ornamental) shutters with red-and-white painted coat of arms.
Above the windows the facade projects slightly on segmental arches, with sculpted stone cherub heads at the springing points. Natural stone in the arch soffits and mosaic brickwork in the arch barrels. Above this two iron wall anchors. On the left a moulded gutter and in the gabled roof a small roof dormer with zinc pointed roof. On the right the stepped gable, set off with natural stone, with in the middle a smaller square window in the same manner as the other windows provided with an arch bridge. In the apex of the gable the coat of arms from the shutters repeats itself on a round inset stone.
Valuation:
Gentleman's house in Dutch neo-Renaissance style of general importance due to its architectural-historical value, as well as being representative of the facade architecture work of architect C. Bruijnzeel.
