Omschrijving winkel/woonblok Vlietlaan.
Inleiding:
Op de hoek van de Vlietlaan en Goudse Rijweg gesitueerd blok ETAGEWONINGEN met WINKELS op de begane grond, gebouwd in 1931 in Zakelijk Expressionistische stijl.
Omschrijving:
Blok van zeven panden, vijf bouwlagen hoog, met etagewoningen op de verdiepingen en winkels op de begane grond. Het blok is trapeziumvormig met verspringende onderdelen. De panden hebben een rechthoekig grondplan, behalve het derde pand vanaf het westen. Het blok maakt hier een knik, waardoor dit pand een driehoekige plattegrond heeft.
Het gehele bouwblok heeft een zeer plastische uitstraling door de gemaakte knik en doordat het tweede en derde (bredere) pand vanaf het oosten uitspringen.
De gevels zijn opgetrokken in gele baksteen (met verdiept voegwerk) met betonnen lateien en vensterdorpels, die onder de vensters op de eerste verdieping en boven de vensters van de derde verdieping horizontaal zijn doorgetrokken als cordonbanden. Het dak is plat met mastiek bedekking en een licht overstek met betonnen lijst. Alle vensters hadden oorspronkelijk stalen kozijnen met dito roedenverdeling. Op de begane grond de oorspronkelijke houten deuren met smal verticaal drieledigvenster in het midden.
Oorspronkelijk bestonden de winkelpuien binnen een betonnen omlijsting uit brede rechthoekige etalagevensters waartussen een terugliggende ingangspartij tussen betonnen kolommen. Boven de etalageruiten en ingang een lage vensterstrook over de gehele breedte van de gevel met vierkante roedenverdeling.
Op de eerste drie verdiepingen van de meeste panden bevinden zich de voor het complex markante verticale erkerstroken gedragen door vier uitstekende betonnen balken en latei. Per verdieping in de erker een breed rechthoekig venster met roedeverdeling.
Ter hoogte van de vierde verdieping boven de erkerstroken een klein vierkant venster met daarboven een metalen hijsbalk.

Block of seven buildings, five storeys high, with flats on the upper floors and shops on the ground floor. The block is trapezoidal with recessed components.
