The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

The farmhouse, the main building of the farm Grote Muizenberg, was built in 1803 (probably using components of a much older predecessor) and rebuilt in 1882 and later. The farmhouse originally consisted of a residential and a business section. Nowadays (1999) no longer in use as a farmhouse.

Description

Main form and materials Brick-built single-storey building under a thatched gabled roof. Plastered plinth, wrought iron wall anchors.

Front facade The front facade contains on the left the business section (1882), recognisable among other things by partially blocked-up double doors with a basket arch. On the right the symmetrically arranged residential section, accessed via a centrally placed door with six-pane sash windows on either side provided with shutters.

Side facades The left gable has centrally a door with a shutter above it, further stable windows. The right gable contains various windows, probably from 1882; originally there were only two small windows at storey level. The gable is also provided with date anchors (1803) and anchors with the initials of the patroness, CO (Cornelia Oomen).

Rear facade The rear facade shows a break at the height of the division between residential and business sections. In the residential section among other things a window from 1882 and garret and cellar windows (cellar provided with anti-theft bars). In the business section among other things two double doors.

Interior The residential section has mainly the old layout with a central corridor and various rooms. Historical components are - apart from the layout - among other things the bed-alcove wall, the cellar with trough vaults and the roof truss structure. The roof truss structure consists of secondarily used oak curved timbers and pine A-frames from 1803. The business section, which was originally three-aisled, is partly modernly laid out. During the 1882 rebuild the current posts, braces, underslung beams and A-frames were installed.

Valuation

The farmhouse of the complex Grote Muizenberg, built in 1803 using older components and rebuilt in 1882, is of general importance because of: - cultural history, as part of a farmhouse on a historic homestead and because of the type of long-gable farmhouse; - architectural and building history, because of the building type, the facade composition and the special components and constructions (oak components in the roof truss structure, timber-frame and roof truss constructions from 1803/1882, bed-alcove wall, layout of front and back house etc.); - ensemble value, because of the visual and functional coherence with the rest of the complex; - the high degree of internal and external intactness and of the intact relationship with the rest of the yard.
