Omschrijving
Op een nagenoeg rechthoekige grondvorm, met afgeschuinde hoek aan de NW-zijde in opdracht van de AWV, opgetrokken bouwblok van ETAGEWONINGEN met genmeenschappelijke binnentuin, begrensd door Bertelmanplein, Bertelmanstraat, Willaertstraat, Pieter Lastmankade en Bernard Kochstraat, bestaande uit drie bouwlagen onder zadeldaken met rode pannen met op regelmatige afstand van elkaar geplaatse gemetselde schoorstenen. De gemeenschappelijke binnentuin is bereikbaar via een aan de Willaertstraat gelegen rondboogvormige poort, aan de straatzijde afgesloten door een ijzeren hek.
De twee lange zijden van het bouwblok bestaan in feite uit drie tegen elkaar geplaatste en telkens iets hoger opgemetselde gevelvlakken. Dit motief is ook toegepast aan de korte zijde aan de Bernard Kochstraat welke bestaat uit twee tegen elkaar geplaatste gevelvlakken. Daar waar de uit verschillende hoogtes bestaande gevelvlakken tegen elkaar zijn geplaatst is de gevel voorzien van een over alle verdiepingen omhooglopende erker met steunberen op de hoeken.
Sommige entrees liggen in een rondboogvormige portiek. De beganegrond is uitgevoerd in een donkerder kleur steen.
De hoeken van het bouwblok zijn voorzien van steunberen. Alle vensters, sommige voorzien van zijlichten, zijn regelmatig en harmonieus in de gevels geplaatst.
Waardering
Bouwblok van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde alsmede van belang vanwege de stedebouwkundige en ensemble waarde als beeldbepalend onderdeel van een uit 7 bouwblokken bestaand woningbouwcomplex en tevens karakteristieke NW begrenzing van plan Zuid II van Berlage.

On a virtually rectangular ground plan, with chamfered corner on the NW side, erected on commission of the AWV, building block of APARTMENT BUILDINGS with communal courtyard, bounded by Bertelmanplein, Bertelmanstraat, Willaertstraat, Pieter Lastmankade and Bernard Kochstraat, consisting of three storeys under gabled roofs with red tiles with regularly spaced brick chimneys. The communal courtyard is accessible via a round-arch-shaped gate located on Willaertstraat, closed on the street side by an iron gate.
The two long sides of the building block in fact consist of three placed against each other and each slightly higher laid facade planes. This motif is also applied on the short side on Bernard Kochstraat which consists of two facade planes placed against each other. Where the facade planes of differing heights are placed against each other the facade is provided with a bay running upwards over all storeys with buttresses on the corners.
Some entrances are located in a round-arch-shaped portico. The ground floor is executed in a darker coloured stone.
The corners of the building block are provided with buttresses. All windows, some provided with sidelights, are regularly and harmoniously placed in the facades.
