Inleiding
De conciërgewoning te Drachten is in 1919 gerealiseerd naar ontwerp van de architect J.A.W. Vrijman uit Den Haag als onderdeel van de gelijktijdig gerealiseerde Rijks Hogere Burgerschool. De woning staat in de groenstrook ten zuiden van het schoolgebouw. De entree van de woning is aan de zuidzijde, georiënteerd op de straat. De woning wordt van de straat gescheiden door een heg. De pergola aan weerszijden van het woonhuis is in 1975 aangebracht.
Omschrijving
Het woonhuis van één bouwlaag is gebouwd op een rechthoekige plattegrond.
Het pand is opgetrokken uit bruine bakstenen onder uitkragend mansardedak met leien. Het onderste deel van de gebroken dakschilden is ingezwenkt en heeft een brede goot op klossen. De T-vensters hebben luiken en bovenlicht onder strek. De bovenlichten hadden, evenals de overige kleinere vensters, oorspronkelijk een roedeverdeling. De originele houten deur heeft een bovenlicht onder strek. Aan de voorzijde is een kajuit met een breed kruiskozijn.
Waardering
De conciërgewoning is als onderdeel van het complex, waartoe ook de Rijks Hogere Burgerschool en de Oranjeboom behoren, van cultuurhistorisch en architectonisch belang:

The caretaker's dwelling in Drachten was realised in 1919 after a design by architect J.A.W. Vrijman from The Hague as part of the simultaneously realised Rijks Hogere Burgerschool. The dwelling stands in the green strip to the south of the school building. The entrance of the dwelling is on the south side, oriented towards the street. The dwelling is separated from the street by a hedge. The pergolas on either side of the residential house were added in 1975.
Description
The residential house of one storey is built on a rectangular floor plan.
The building is constructed of brown brickwork under a projecting mansard roof with slate. The lower part of the broken roof slopes is inset and has a broad gutter on corbels. The T-windows have shutters and a fanlight under a lintel. The fanlights, as well as the other smaller windows, originally had glazing bars. The original wooden door has a fanlight under a lintel. At the front is a cabin with a wide cross window.
