Inleiding
Het TRANSFORMATORHUISJE is rond 1925 gerealiseerd als onderdeel van het arbeiderswijkje "Beter Wonen" in Drachten. Het huisje is achter Beter Wonen nr. 2 gesitueerd.
Omschrijving
Het object is opgetrokken in bruine handvormbakstenen op een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het overstekende schilddakje is gedekt met Tuile-du-Nord pannen. Op de twee hoeken van de nok en hoekkepers zijn twee opvallende zinken ontluchtingspijpen. Ter hoogte van de bovenzijde van de stalen deur is een uitkragende rollaag rond het pand. Boven de geverfde deur is een in reliëf gemetselde rollaag en is de gevel verticaal opgemetseld. De smalle verticale lichtspleet naast de deur is voorzien van glastegels en diefijzers.
Waardering
Het transformatorhuisje is van architectonisch en typologisch belang:
- als oorspronkelijk onderdeel van het woningcomplex,
- vanwege de functie,
- vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur.

The TRANSFORMER HOUSE was realised circa 1925 as part of the workers' neighbourhood "Beter Wonen" in Drachten. The house is situated behind Beter Wonen no. 2.
Description
The object is built of brown handmade bricks on a rectangular footprint. The overhanging hipped roof is covered with Tuile-du-Nord tiles. At the two corners of the ridge and hip rafters are two striking zinc ventilation pipes. At the height of the top of the steel door is a protruding roll course around the building. Above the painted door is a relief mortared roll course and the facade is vertically mortared. The narrow vertical light opening next to the door is fitted with glass tiles and anti-theft bars.

The transformer house is of architectural and typological importance:
