Inleiding
Het woningblok bestaande uit negen ARBEIDERSWONINGEN is onderdeel van het arbeidersbuurtje "Beter Wonen". Het complex ligt rond een groenaanleg en is circa 1920 in Drachten gerealiseerd. Door een royale verspringing van de rooilijn ter hoogte van de panden nr. 15 en 17 lijkt de woningrij in tweeën te zijn gesplitst. Daarnaast ligt het pand op nr. 7 nog eens teruggerooid t.o.v. de rest van de woningrij.
Omschrijving
Het woningblok is opgebouwd uit negen aan elkaar grenzende woningen van één bouwlaag. De zadeldaken zijn gedekt met rode sneldekkers, waar oorspronkelijk rode gegolfde Friese pannen lagen. Op de nok zijn gemetselde schoorstenen. De woningen zijn opgetrokken uit bruine handvormstenen. De voor- en achtergevels worden op de begane grond ingedeeld door vernieuwde kruisvensters onder strek. De toegangsdeuren met bovenlicht onder strek zijn eveneens vernieuwd. In het dakvlak boven de langsgevel aan de voor- en achterzijde kajuiten met dubbele vensters. De twee panden ter hoogte van de rooilijnverspringing en de beide hoekpanden hebben op het plein georinteerde topgevels. Deze zijn voorzien van siermetselwerk in de geveltoppen, bestaande uit een dubbele rollaag langs de dakrand en verticaal gemetselde accenten. De zijtopgevels van het blok, met een dubbele rollaag als aan de voorgevel, eindigen in een gemetselde schoorsteen met een uitkragende driehoekig gemetselde aanzet. In de zijtopgevels zijn kleine vensters. Alle topgevels hebben trapsgewijs getande hoeken ter hoogte van het begin van de sluitgevel.
Waardering

The housing block consisting of nine WORKERS' DWELLINGS is part of the workers' neighbourhood "Beter Wonen". The complex is situated around a green area and was realised circa 1920 in Drachten. Due to a generous offset in the building line at the height of buildings nos. 15 and 17, the row of dwellings appears to be split in two. Description
The housing block is built up from nine adjoining dwellings of one storey. The gabled roofs are covered with red tiles, where originally red corrugated Friese tiles were laid. On the ridge are mortared chimneys. The dwellings are built in brown handmade bricks. The front and rear facades are divided on the ground floor by renewed cross windows beneath a string course. The access doors with fanlights beneath a string course are likewise renewed. In the roof plane above the side facade on the front and rear sides dormers with double windows. The two buildings at the height of the building line offset and both corner buildings have stepped gables oriented towards the square. These are provided with ornamental brickwork in the gable tops, consisting of a double rollwork along the roof edge and vertically mortared accents. The side stepped gables of the block, with a double rollwork as on the front facade, end in a mortared chimney with a projecting triangular mortared base. In the side stepped gables are small windows. All stepped gables have stepped and toothed angles at the height of the beginning of the closing gable.
