Inleiding
In een traditionele bouwstijl in 1928 in opdracht van de Nederlandsche Zinkwit Maatschappij naar een ontwerp van de architecten V.F. Marres en W.J. Sandhövel uit Maastricht gebouwd KANTOORGEBOUW.
Het kantoorgebouw is op het bedrijfsterrein van de Union Minière Oxyde gesitueerd.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand kantoorgebouw met een in de lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond. Het kantoorgebouw telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een schilddak met pannen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen. Vrijwel symmetrische indeling frontgevel. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren met roedeverdeling. Souterrainvensters. In rechterdeel frontgevel een ronde erker over twee bouwlagen met torendakje met pannen. In deze erker opvallende neo-classicistische houten vensteromlijsting. De ingangspartij met een rondboogvormig bovenlicht met roedeverdeling met hierboven een wapenschild.
Linkerdeel frontgevel licht vooruitspringend. Gevels met decoratief metselwerk in bandvorm. Breed dakoverstek.
Aan de linker- en rechterzijgevel een pergola in de vorm van bakstenen kolommen met decoratieve hardstenen afdekking en verbonden met een houten constructie. In middendeel achtergevel een torenachtig trappenhuis over drie bouwlagen en afgedekt met een torendakje en met in de twee en derde bouwlaag rechthoekige glas-in-lood vensters. Aan linkerdeel achtergevel een aanbouw in een bouwlaag met een plat dak en aan het rechterdeel een aanbouw in twee bouwlagen met een schilddak.
Van het INTERIEUR zijn onder meer van belang: de voormalige direkteurskamer met ronde erker en met hoge houten lambrizering met decoratief houtsnijwerk; hardstenen haardomlijsting; vensterbanken in bruin-grijze marmer en een houten balkenplafond. Trappenhuis met vloer in witte, zwarte en groene marmer; met smeedijzeren trapleuning met houten armlegger.
Waardering
Het kantoorgebouw is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Het kantoorgebouw bezit architectuurhistorische waarde wegens het bijzondere belang voor het oeuvre van de architecten Marres en Sandhövel, de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en de bijzondere samenhang tussen het exterieur en delen van het interieur.
Ensemblewaarde ontleent het object aan de situering aan de rand van de bebouwing van de plaats Eijsden en sterk verbonden met de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van deze plaats.
Het kantoorgebouw is tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en een deel van het interieur en de typologische zeldzaamheid.

Description
Detached office building with a rectangular floor plan placed in the longitudinal direction. The office building comprises two storeys and is topped with a hipped roof with tiles. The building material used is brick. Virtually symmetrical arrangement of front facade. Rectangular wooden windows and doors with glazing bars. Basement windows. In the right section of front facade a round bay window over two storeys with small tower roof with tiles. In this bay window striking neo-classical wooden window surrounds. The entrance section with a round-arched fanlight with glazing bars with above it a coat of arms.
Left section of front facade slightly projecting forward. Facades with decorative brickwork in band form. Broad roof overhang.
On the left and right side facades a pergola in the form of brick columns with decorative hardstone capping and connected with a wooden construction. In the middle section of rear facade a tower-like stairwell over three storeys and topped with a tower roof and with rectangular leaded-glass windows on the second and third storeys. On the left section of rear facade an annex in one storey with a flat roof and on the right section an annex in two storeys with a hipped roof.
Of the INTERIOR the following are of note: the former director's office with round bay window and with high wooden panelling with decorative woodcarving; hardstone fireplace surround; window seats in brown-grey marble and a wooden beam ceiling. Stairwell with floor in white, black and green marble; with wrought-iron stair rail with wooden handrail.
Valuation
The office building is of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a socio-economic and typological development. The office building possesses architectural-historical value due to its particular importance for the oeuvre of architects Marres and Sandhövel, the aesthetic qualities of the design and the particular coherence between the exterior and parts of the interior.
The object derives ensemble value from its situation on the edge of the built-up area of the place Eijsden and is strongly connected with the socio-economic development of this place.
