Inleiding
Vondelstraat 47 is een rond circa 1873 opgetrokken VILLA naar een ontwerp in neogotisch-renaissancistische stijl van J.H. Schmits in opdracht van H. Wille. Vondelstraat 49 bestaat uit de rechtertoren en de meest rechtsgelegen vensteras van het tussen de twee torens gelegen muurvlak en is oorspronkelijk gebouwd als 'bijbouw' bij Vondelstraat 47 naar een ontwerp van H.H.J. Hogeman uit 1882 in opdracht van de wed. mevr. H. Wille, maar vormt stilistisch gezien een onlosmakelijk en niet te scheiden geheel met Vondelstraat 47. N.B. In 1911 is Vondelstraat 47 veranderd en uitgebreid. Daarbij werd het souterrain, liggend op de hoek, vergroot met twee daarboven gelegen verdiepingen door de architect Staal Haalmeyer in opdracht van I.P. Jolles. In 1913 is het pand gewijzigd door H.A.J. Baanders in opdracht van C.H. Guépin. Vondelstraat 49 is in 1926-1927 veranderd met behoud van bestemming daarvan tot een eengezinswoning. In 1987 is het pand verbouwd tot appartementswoningen en vernummerd tot 49 A-E.
Na de verbinding van de Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat met de Van Baerlestraat in 1947 ligt het bouwblok thans op de hoek van de Vondelstraat en de Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat
Omschrijving
Een op een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken in blokverband gepleisterde bakstenen villa met latere aanbouw bestaande uit vier bouwlagen. De torens zijn voorzien van een plat dak; het daartussen gelegen muurvlak ligt onder een schuin omhoog lopend plat dak, waarbij het schuine dakdeel bedekt is met leien. De twee torens zijn identiek aan elkaar met twee boven elkaar gelegen erkers beganegronds en op de eerste verdieping. In de rechter toren een bovenliggend balkon met ijzeren borstwering tussen gepleisterde posten. De torens zijn voorzien van met dekplaten beklede kantelen boven een gestileerd fries en op de hoeken arkels waarop aan de voorzijde torenvormige bekroningen zijn geplaatst. In de oostelijke gevelzijde van de linker toren op de tweede verdieping een blind venster. Alle vensters zijn voorzien van bovenliggende gestileerde waterlijsten op sierconsoles en van openslaande ramen onder in tweeën onderverdeelde bovenlichten.
Het tussen de twee torens gelegen teruggerooide middendeel is vier vensterassen breed. Beganegronds in de meest links gelegen vensteras een via een uit acht treden bestaande stoep toegankelijke entree met sierijzeren leuningen. De deur is recent. Een grote dakkapel met timpaan waarin oculus tussen twee kleinere dakkapellen. Traliewerk voor de ramen in het souterrain en beganegronds voor de ramen in het middenvlak.

Description
A plastered brick villa erected in stretcher bond on a rectangular floor plan with later extension consisting of four storeys. The towers are provided with a flat roof; the wall section between them is situated under a sloping upward flat roof, whereby the sloping roof part is covered with slate. The two towers are identical to each other with two superimposed oriels on the ground floor and on the first storey. In the right tower an upper balcony with iron balustrade between plastered posts. The towers are provided with crenellations covered with capping plates above a stylized frieze and at the corners corbels on which tower-shaped crownings are placed at the front. In the eastern facade side of the left tower on the second storey a blind window. All windows are provided with overhanging stylized drip mouldings on ornamental corbels and with opening frames subdivided into two below fanlights.
The recessed middle section between the two towers is four window bays wide. On the ground floor in the leftmost window bay an entrance accessible via a flight of eight steps with ornamental iron railings. The door is recent. A large roof dormer with tympanum in which an oculus between two smaller roof dormers. Trellis work for the windows in the basement and ground floor for the windows in the middle section.
Valuation
Original villa of architectural-historical importance because of the rare combination for Amsterdam of neo-gothic and neorenaissancistic style features.
