Inleiding
Voormalig KURHOTEL, vervolgens kantoor van katholieke vakbond en pensioenfonds De Eendracht, winkel van Coöperatieve Vereeniging De Eendracht en sedert 1979 apotheek met bovenwoningen. Dominant gesitueerd op de hoek van de Maastrichterlaan en de Koperstraat. Gebouwd omstreeks 1900, in eclectische stijl. Vormt een architectonische eenheid met de naburige Kurzaal. Bij de verbouwing tot apotheek is het interieur geheel vernieuwd en een doorbraak naar de Kurzaal gerealiseerd.
Omschrijving
Drie bouwlagen plus zolderverdieping op rechthoekige plattegrond met afgeschuinde hoekpartij. Het geheel is voorzien van een mansardedak met plat, gedekt met leien in Maasdekking, dakkapellen met frontons en bakgoten.
Symmetrische gevel aan de Maastrichterlaan met vijf vensterassen, waarvan de middelste in de tweede en derde bouwlaag een balkon heeft en bekroond wordt door een tuitgevel met schouderstukken en insteekkap. De afgeschuinde hoekpartij herbergt de entree van de apotheek, een dubbele erker in de tweede en derde bouwlaag en loopt uit in een toren met uivormige bekroning met opengewerkte spits en smeedijzeren windvaan. De gevel in de Koperstraat telt vijf vensterassen, maar is asymmetrisch. De tweede vensteras wordt bekroond door een tuitgevel met insteekkap.
Eerste bouwlaag uitgevoerd in rustica met Florentijnse vensterbogen. De entree in de hoekpartij wordt geflankeerd door gestucte lisenen in zuilmotief, uitlopend in de consoles van de erker. De gevel aan de Maastrichterlaan is in de derde as voorzien van twee balkons met balusters. Onder de dorpellijsten bevindt zich decoratief stucwerk. In de door een tuitgevel bekroonde assen is het venster van de derde laag voorzien van een rondboogfronton met schelpmotief. Kroonlijst met gestucte, omkaderde ruitornamenten.
Rechthoekige, rondboogvormige en segmentboogvormige houten vensters in diverse geledingsvormen, segmentboogvormige houten deuren, allen vernieuwd bij de herinrichting tot woonhuis-apotheek.
Waardering
Het pand is van grote cultuurhistorische waarde vanwege de oorspronkelijke functie als Kurhotel en de maatschappelijke functie die het pand in Vaals geruime tijd heeft gehad. De apotheek Prickartz is van zeer groot architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de op het naburige Duitsland georienteerde bouwstijl, de rijke ornamentiek en de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteit.

Former SPA HOTEL, subsequently office of Catholic trade union and pension fund De Eendracht, shop of Cooperative Association De Eendracht and since 1979 pharmacy with apartments above. Prominently situated at the corner of the Maastrichterlaan and the Koperstraat. Built around 1900, in eclectic style. Forms an architectural unity with the neighbouring Kurzaal. Upon conversion to a pharmacy the interior was entirely renewed and an opening to the Kurzaal was created.
Description
Three storeys plus attic storey on rectangular floor plan with chamfered corner section. The whole is provided with a mansard roof with flat surface, covered with slates in Maas bond, roof dormers with pediments and roof gutters.
Symmetrical facade on the Maastrichterlaan with five window bays, of which the central one on the second and third storeys has a balcony and is crowned by a spout gable with shoulder pieces and inserted hood. The chamfered corner section houses the entrance to the pharmacy, a double bay window on the second and third storeys and rises into a tower with egg-shaped crown with openwork spire and wrought-iron weathervane. The facade on the Koperstraat has five window bays but is asymmetrical. The second window bay is crowned by a spout gable with inserted hood.
First storey executed in rustica with Florentine window arches. The entrance in the corner section is flanked by stuccoed pilasters in column motif, rising into the consoles of the bay window. The facade on the Maastrichterlaan has two balconies with balusters in the third bay. Below the sill lines is decorative stuccowork. In the bays crowned by a spout gable the window of the third storey is provided with a round-arched pediment with scallop motif. Cornice with stuccoed, framed lozenge ornaments.
Rectangular, round-arched and segment-arched wooden windows in various glazing forms, segment-arched wooden doors, all renewed upon the conversion to apartment-pharmacy.
Valuation
The building is of great cultural-historical value because of its original function as a Spa Hotel and the social function that the building had in Vaals for a considerable time. The pharmacy Prickartz is of very great architectural-historical importance because of the building style oriented towards neighbouring Germany, the rich ornamentation and the high-quality aesthetic quality.
