Inleiding LOGEGEBOUW, gesitueerd in de nagenoeg gesloten zuidelijke gevelwand van de W.A. Scholtenstraat, gebouwd in 1923 als verenigingsgebouw in opdracht van de NV Groninger Odd Fellowhuis naar ontwerp van de Groninger architecten Kuiler & Drewes in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School. Het interieur is grotendeels vernieuwd. De recente aanbouw aan de achtergevel valt buiten de bescherming. Het gebouw is thans nog steeds in gebruik als logegebouw. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een plat dak. De daklijn is onregelmatig door verspringende gevelbeëindigingen, die afgedekt zijn met zink. De voorgevel is twee raamtraveeën breed en opgemetseld uit roodbruine baksteen. De gevel wordt verticaal geleed door een drietal forse ronde uitmetselingen, die rusten op uitkragend metselwerk. Onder de penanten is het metselwerk inkoppenverband uitgevoerd. Op de begane grond bevindt zich rechts de ingang met een forse, bewerkte houten voordeur onder een betonluifel waarboven een driedelig bovenlicht met gekleurd glas-in-lood is aangebracht. Het flankerende venster links heeft eveneens een betonluifel onder de bovenlichten. Het venster rust op twee betonnen consoles. LODGE BUILDING, situated in the nearly closed southern facade wall of the W.A. Scholtenstraat, built in 1923 as an association building commissioned by NV Groninger Odd Fellowhuis to designs by the Groningen architects Kuiler & Drewes in the style of the Amsterdam School. The interior has been largely renewed. The recent extension at the rear facade is excluded from the protection. The building is still in use as a lodge building.
Description
The building is erected on a rectangular floor plan and comprises two storeys under a flat roof. The roofline is irregular due to offset gable endings, which are covered with zinc. The front facade is two window bays wide and built of reddish-brown brick. The facade is vertically articulated by three substantial round projections, which rest on cantilevered masonry. Below the pilasters the masonry is executed in Dutch bond. Between the pilasters are broad, three-part oriel sections with coloured leaded glass in the fanlights. In many places, the parapets below and above the windows and on the pilasters, decorative relief brickwork is applied. On the ground floor there is the entrance on the right with a substantial, worked wooden front door under a concrete awning above which a three-part fanlight with coloured leaded glass is provided. The flanking window on the left likewise has a concrete awning under the fanlights. The window rests on two concrete consoles. Of internal importance is the wooden staircase to the lodge hall and the leaded glass windows of the hall and lodge hall.
