Inleiding WOONHUIS, gesitueerd in de nagenoeg gesloten zuidelijke gevelwand van de W.A. Scholtenstraat, gebouwd in 1924 naar ontwerp van de Groninger architect E. van Linge in opdracht van de familie Grijpstra in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School met kenmerken van de Nieuwe Zakelijkheid. Het gebouw is thans nog in gebruik als woonhuis. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en bestaat uit een souterrain waarboven twee bouwlagen onder een plat dak. De gevel is afgesloten met een zinkstrip. De voorgevel is twee traveeën breed en asymmetrisch van opzet. De gevel van het souterrain en de begane grond is opgetrokken uit een geglazuurde persmondsteen. In de westelijke hoek bevindt zich een deur naar het souterrain. De voordeur is geplaatst in een dubbelbrede portiek, die wordt gedragen door een ronde kolom die bekleed is met gegolfde zwarte tegels in staand verband. Naast de voordeur bevindt zich een aardig tableau van natuursteen met voorstellingen in reliëf. Op de bel étage bevindt zich op de hoek een haaksgezet, groot venster, dat door een betonplaat wordt ontlast. De bovenlichten van de stalen raampartij en de portiek zijn uitgevoerd in glas-in-lood, in de stijl van 'De Ploeg'. Op de verdieping bevinden zich twee vensters met driedelige stalen kozijnen. Tussen de vensters is midden op de gevel een halfronde liseen uitgemetseld in een geglazuurde persmondsteen. De liseen heeft de functie van rookkanaal. De indeling van de achtergevel is oorspronkelijk met op de bel étage openslaande stalen balkondeuren, die naar het balkon leiden, geflankeerd door rechthoekige smalle glas-in-loodramen in de stijl van 'De Ploeg'. Inwendig is de oorspronkelijke indeling goed bewaard gebleven. Van belang zijn de fraaie glas-in-loodramen van de bel étage en portiek en de wandbetegelingen van de gang, het trappenhuis en om de schouw in de voorkamer op de verdieping, bestaande uit een abstract patroon van donkerblauwe en gele tegels. Introduction DWELLING HOUSE, situated in the nearly closed southern facade wall of the W.A. Scholtenstraat, built in 1924 designed by Groningen architect E. van Linge on commission of the Grijpstra family in the style of the Amsterdam School with characteristics of the Nieuwe Zakelijkheid. The building is still in use as a dwelling. Description The building is erected on a rectangular floor plan and consists of a basement above which are two storeys under a flat roof. The facade is finished with a zinc strip. The front facade is two bays wide and asymmetrical in layout. The facade of the basement and ground floor is built from glazed pressed brick. In the western corner there is a door to the basement. The front door is placed in a double-width porch, which is supported by a round column clad with corrugated black tiles in vertical bond. Next to the front door is a neat tableau of natural stone with representations in relief. On the piano nobile there is at the corner a right-angled, large window, which is supported by a concrete plate. The fanlights of the steel window assembly and the porch are executed in leaded glass, in the style of 'De Ploeg'. On the upper storey there are two windows with three-part steel frames. Between the windows in the middle of the facade is a semicircular pilaster built of glazed pressed brick. The pilaster functions as a chimney. The arrangement of the rear facade is original with on the piano nobile opening steel balcony doors, which lead to the balcony, flanked by rectangular narrow leaded glass windows in the style of 'De Ploeg'. Internally the original layout is well preserved. Important are the fine leaded glass windows of the piano nobile and porch and the tile facings of the corridor, stairwell and around the fireplace in the front room on the upper storey, consisting of an abstract pattern of dark blue and yellow tiles.
