Inleiding WOONHUIS, gesitueerd op de hoek van de gesloten zuidelijke gevelwand van de W.A. Scholtenstraat en de Turfsingel, gebouwd in 1923 als eigen woonhuis en kantoor naar ontwerp van de Groninger architect E. van Linge in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School. Het gebouw is thans in gebruik als woonhuis met kantoor.Het van oorsprong rijk aangeklede interieur in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School is aangepast. Omschrijving Het markante gebouw is opgetrokken op een in hoofdvorm vierkante plattegrond en telt drie bouwlagen onder een plat dak. De westelijke gevel aan de Turfsingel is naar het noorden toe rondgezet. Aan de W.A. Scholtenstraat bevindt zicht een toegangstrap naar de portiek. De trap en de gevel van de begane grond zijn opgetrokken uit een bijzonder onregelmatig gevormde gesinterde mondsteen en zijn gemetseld in wildverband. Op de begane grond zijn drie raamopeningen gemaakt met stalen kozijnen. De gevel van de verdieping is opgetrokken uit een donkerrode perssteen. Op de hoek bevindt zich een halfrond uitgemetseld rookkanaal. Het gevelvlak wordt geopend door een reeks van gepaarde, qua afmeting en vorm wisselende vensters met stalen kozijnen. De gevel aan de W.A. Scholtenstraat wordt afgesloten door een groot uit het gevelvlak springend venster. De van oorsprong harmonica-achtige stalen roeden zijn vervangen door kunststofkozijnen. In de westelijke gevel bevindt zich nog een oorspronkelijk venster met gekleurd glas-in-lood in de stijl van 'De Ploeg'. De daklijn maakt verschillende sprongen. De gevel is geheel begroeid met een klimplant. De indeling van de achtergevel is oorspronkelijk en bevat op de begane grond een terras met een bakstenen ommuring van kromme klinkers met een trapje naar de tuin. Waardering Woonhuis, van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde als uitermate waardevolle representant van de bouwstijl van de Amsterdamse School, waarvan dit gebouw het vroegste exemplaar in de stad Groningen is. Introduction DWELLING HOUSE, situated at the corner of the closed southern facade wall of the W.A. Scholtenstraat and the Turfsingel, built in 1923 as a private dwelling and office designed by Groningen architect E. van Linge in the style of the Amsterdam School. The building is now in use as a dwelling with office. The originally richly appointed interior in the style of the Amsterdam School has been altered. Description The striking building is erected on a floor plan that is essentially square in form and comprises three storeys under a flat roof. The western facade on the Turfsingel is rounded towards the north. On the W.A. Scholtenstraat there is an entrance staircase to the porch. The staircase and the facade of the ground floor are built from irregularly shaped sintered brick and are laid in random bond. On the ground floor three window openings have been made with steel frames. The facade of the first storey is built from dark red pressed brick. At the corner there is a semicircular clinker-built chimney. The facade surface is opened by a series of paired windows with steel frames, varying in size and form. The facade on the W.A. Scholtenstraat is terminated by a large window projecting from the facade surface. The originally accordion-like steel rods have been replaced by plastic frames. In the western facade there is still an original window with coloured leaded glass in the style of 'De Ploeg'. The roofline makes several jumps. The facade is completely overgrown with climbing plants. The arrangement of the rear facade is original and contains on the ground floor a terrace with a brick surround of curved clinkers with a small staircase to the garden. Valuation Dwelling house, of general importance because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as an exceptionally valuable representative of the building style of the Amsterdam School, of which this building is the earliest example in the city of Groningen.
