Inleiding WOONHUIS MET JONGERE WINKELPUI, gesitueerd in de gesloten, zuidelijke gevelwand van de Poelestraat, oorspronkelijk daterend van de zestiende eeuw maar in zijn huidige verschijning verbouwd in circa 1885 in neo-classicistische stijl. Het gebouw is thans in gebruik als café/restaurant met bovenwoning. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen en een mezzanine-verdieping onder een schilddak, belegd met een zwarte golfpan, en bevat een laat negentiende-eeuwse houten winkelpui. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een geprofileerde houten kroonlijst, die een geprofileerde bakgoot draagt. De voorgevel is drie raamtraveeën breed. De voormalige winkelpui heeft een gefrijnde hardstenen plint en borstwering, die versierd zijn met tafels en facetten. In de borstwering zijn sokkels opgenomen, waarop gesneden houten pilasters met spiegels en rozetten zijn geplaatst, die bekroond worden door gesneden Corintische kapitelen. Aan weerszijden van het brede etalagevenster bevinden zich twee fraai bewerkte houten paneeldeuren met een gebeeldhouwd bovenkalf. Waardering WOONHUIS MET JONGERE WINKELPUI, voorzien van een eenvoudige gestucte negentiende-eeuwse lijstgevel en een buitengewoon fraaie houten pui in neo-classicistische stijl uit het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw, als geheel van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de ambachtelijke kwaliteit en degaafheid en zeldzaamheid van de winkelpui. Introduction DWELLING WITH YOUNGER SHOPFRONT, situated in the closed, southern facade of the Poelestraat, originally dating from the sixteenth century but in its present appearance remodelled around 1885 in neo-classical style. The building is now in use as a café/restaurant with an upper dwelling. Description The building is erected on a rectangular plan and comprises two storeys and a mezzanine storey under a hipped roof, laid with black corrugated tile, and contains a late nineteenth-century wooden shopfront. The facade is closed off by a moulded wooden cornice, which carries a moulded gutter. The front facade is three bays wide. The former shopfront has a fined sandstone plinth and parapet, which are decorated with panels and facets. In the parapet sockets are incorporated, on which carved wooden pilasters with mirrors and rosettes are placed, which are crowned by carved Corinthian capitals. On either side of the broad display window are two finely worked wooden panel doors with a sculptured overpanel. The wooden shopfront is closed off by a moulded architrave with a richly worked cornice. The storeys are entirely stuccoed and provided with false joints. The three storey windows are straight-headed as are the squat windows of the mezzanine storey. Assessment DWELLING WITH YOUNGER SHOPFRONT, provided with a simple stuccoed nineteenth-century cornice-topped facade and an extraordinarily fine wooden shopfront in neo-classical style from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, as a whole of general importance because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value because of the craftsmanship quality and integrity and rarity of the shopfront. Moreover, the building forms an important architectural element in the closed, western facade of the Poelestraat in Groningen.
