Inleiding WINKEL MET BOVENWONING, gesitueerd in de gesloten, zuidelijke gevelwand van de Poelestraat, gebouwd in 1890 in opdracht van J.J. Kroon in een eclectische bouwstijl met neo-maniëristische stijlkenmerken en decoraties, karakteristiek voor de architectuur uit het einde van de negentiende eeuw. De winkelpui is geheel gemoderniseerd. Het gebouw is thans in gebruik als café met opslagruimte. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen en een mezzanine-verdieping onder een afgeknot schilddak, belegd met een zwarte golfpan. De voorgevel is drie raamtraveeën breed. Boven de moderne pui is het gevelmuurwerk van de verdiepingen opgemetseld uit roodbruine baksteen. Op de eerste verdieping bevinden zich drie rechtgesloten T-vensters met verhoogde segmentbogen, die bestaan uit dubbele rollagen. De muurdammen tussen de vensters zijn voorzien van zeer rijk versierde pilasters van kunstzandsteen met gefrijnde spiegels, die met rank- en loofwerk zijn bezet. De pilasters worden bekroond door composiet kapitelen met rozetten, die tevens als negblokken voor de ontlastingsbogen fungeren. De ontlastingsbogen zijn in het midden bekroond met plastische sluitstenen in de vorm van mannenkoppen met eierlijsten en loofwerk van kunstzandsteen. De boogtrommels zijn ingevuld met gekleurde baksteendecoraties met geometrische motieven en suggesties van diamantkoppen. De vensters rusten op een doorlopende geprofileerde lijst van kunstzandsteen en hieronder de architraaf van de vroegere winkelpui. De architraaf is rijk versierd met tal van ornamenten in neo-maniëristische stijl. De liggende vensters van de mezzanine-verdieping zijn voorzien van recht geprofileerd lijstwerk met sluitstenen en borstweringen van kunstzandsteen. De muurdammen tussen de vensters zijn voorzien van driekwart zuiltjes op forse basementen, die worden bekroond door kapitelen. Onder de basementen is een viertal bewerkte smeedijzeren muurankers aangebracht. De zuiltjes dragen een zeer rijk bewerkte kroonlijst, die voorzien is van consoles en verdiepte velden hiertussen, die een geprofileerde bakgoot draagt. Inwendig nog van belang de rijk geornamenteerde stuc plafonds van de voormalige woonvertrekken op de eerste verdieping. Introduction SHOP WITH FLAT ABOVE, situated in the closed, southern facade wall of the Poelestraat, built in 1890 by order of J.J. Kroon in an eclectic architectural style with neo-Mannerist style characteristics and decorations, characteristic of the architecture from the end of the nineteenth century. The shop frontage has been completely modernised. The building is currently in use as a café with storage space. Description The building is erected on a rectangular ground plan and consists of two storeys and a mezzanine storey under a truncated hipped roof, covered with black corrugated tile. The front facade is three bays wide. Above the modern frontage the facade masonry of the storeys is built up in reddish-brown brick. On the first storey there are three rectangular T-windows with raised segmental arches, which consist of double roll mouldings. The wall piers between the windows are provided with very richly decorated pilasters of artificial sandstone with reeded panels, which are embellished with scroll and leaf work. The pilasters are crowned by composite capitals with rosettes, which also function as blocking courses for the relieving arches. The relieving arches are crowned in the middle with plastic keystones in the form of male heads with egg mouldings and leaf work in artificial sandstone. The arch barrels are filled with coloured brick decorations with geometric motifs and suggestions of diamond points. The windows rest on a continuous profiled line of artificial sandstone and below this the architrave of the former shop frontage. The architrave is richly decorated with numerous ornaments in neo-Mannerist style. The horizontal windows of the mezzanine storey are provided with straight profiled mouldings with keystones and parapets of artificial sandstone. The wall piers between the windows are provided with three-quarter shafts on substantial bases, which are crowned by capitals. Beneath the bases, a set of four worked wrought-iron wall anchors are applied. The shafts carry a very richly worked cornice, which is provided with consoles and recessed panels between them, which bear a profiled gutter. Internally, the richly ornamented stucco ceilings of the former living quarters on the first storey are of note. Evaluation SHOP WITH FLAT ABOVE, erected in 1890 in a richly decorated eclectic architectural style with neo-Mannerist style characteristics, of general importance owing to its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value owing to the exceptionally rich ornamentation in artificial sandstone and owing to the architectural rarity and integrity.
