Inleiding
GASTHUIS, gesitueerd in de gesloten, uit gedifferentieerde bebouwing bestaande oostelijke gevelwand van de Nieuwe Boteringestraat, gebouwd in 1878 als Doopsgezind Gasthuis in neoclassicistische stijl. Het gebouw is thans nog steeds in gebruik als Doopsgezind Gasthuis. Het hoofdgebouw maakt deel uit van een complex met achter aan de hof gelegen gasthuiswoningen, die niet voor rijksbescherming in aanmerking komen. De aanbouwsels aan de achtergevel vallen eveneens buiten de bescherming. Het gebouw is in 1988 gerestaureerd, waarbij boven de poort een balkon met ijzeren hek werd aangebracht.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt één bouwlaag onder een schilddak, belegd met een zwarte Friese golfpan. Boven de poorttravee in het midden is een uitbouw van één verdieping onder een laag zadeldak, die bekroond wordt door een houten tympaan. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een houten kroonlijst met een geprofileerde bakgoot. Op de hoeken van het dak staan twee schoorstenen. De acht traveeën brede voorgevel is strikt symmetrisch van opzet en opgetrokken uit roodbruine baksteen en voorzien van een gepleisterde plint. Op de uiterste hoeken zijn gestucte pilasters met lijstkapitelen aangebracht. Soortgelijke pilasters flankeren ook de rondboogpoort in het midden, die twee traveeën breed is. In de zijwanden van deze poort zijn twee maal twee voordeuren voor de woningen aangebracht. In de gestucte poortomlijsting is in de sluitsteen het bouwjaar aangegeven: 1878. Alle vensters zijn getoogd gesloten en hebben hanenkammen. Die van de verdieping boven de poort hebben ook een segmentsluiting, maar de twee vensters zijn in gestuct lijstwerk met kuiven samengevat. De indeling van de achtergevel is nagenoeg gelijk aan de voorgevel zij het dat zich hier aan weerszijden van de poort een enkel en een gepaard venster bevinden, die met segmentbogen en hanenkammen zijn gesloten. De poort is met houten planken dichtgezet met hierin een deuropening.

ALMSHOUSE, situated in the closed, consisting of differentiated building, eastern façade wall of the Nieuwe Boteringestraat, built in 1878 as Mennonite Almshouse in neoclassicist style. Description
The building is erected on a rectangular ground plan and comprises one storey under a hipped roof, covered with black Frisian corrugated pan. Above the gateway bay in the middle is an extension of one storey under a low gabled roof, which is crowned by a wooden tympanum. The façade is closed off by a wooden cornice with a moulded gutter. On the corners of the roof stand two chimneys. The eight-bay wide front façade is strictly symmetrical in layout and erected from reddish-brown brick and provided with a plastered plinth. On the outermost corners stuccoed pilasters with list capitals have been applied. Similar pilasters also flank the rounded arch gateway in the middle, which is two bays wide. In the side walls of this gateway two rows of two front doors for the dwellings have been applied. In the stuccoed gateway frame the year of construction is indicated in the keystone: 1878. All windows are arched closed and have decorative ridges. Those of the storey above the gateway also have a segmental arch, but the two windows are grouped in stuccoed list work with cornices. The layout of the rear façade is almost the same as the front façade, except that here on either side of the gateway there is a single and a paired window, which are closed with segmental arches and decorative ridges. The gateway is boarded up with a door opening in it.
