Inleiding HERENHUIS, gesitueerd in de gesloten, westelijke gevelwand van de Nieuwe Boteringestraat, gebouwd omstreeks 1870 in een eclectische bouwstijl, karakteristiek voor de architectuur uit het derde kwart van de negentiende eeuw. In 1924 is de achtergevel met een verdieping opgehoogd en in 1931 is de achtergevel uitgebouwd met een breed erkervenster met een stalen roedeverdeling. Het gebouw is thans nog in gebruik als woonhuis. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een in hoofdvorm rechthoekige plattegrond en is aan de voorzijde onderkelderd. Het gebouw bevat twee bouwlagen onder eendwarsgeplaatst afgeknot zadeldak, belegd met een platte, geglazuurde Friese pan. De gevel is geheel gestuct en voorzien van schijnvoegen. In het souterrain zijn twee vensteropeningen aangebracht, die gedecoreerd zijn met geprofileerd stuc lijstwerk en kuiven met loofwerk. Voor de houten voordeur met bovenlicht, die is voorzien van kussenpanelen en een gietijzeren rooster, ligt een hardstenen stoep van twee treden. Alle vensters zijn, evenals de voordeur rechtgesloten maar hebben afgeronde bovenhoeken. De vensters zijn gedecoreeerd met geprofileerd stuc lijstwerk en kuiven met loofwerk. De toegangstravee en de hoeken van de gevel zijn voorzien van reeksen afgevlakte en gebosseerde diamantkoppen in stuc. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een geprofileerde kroonlijst, die een geprofileerde bakgoot draagt. In het voordakschild is een brede houten dakkapel van later datum aangebracht. De achtergevel is opgetrokken uit rode baksteen en bevat rechtgesloten T-vensters. Introduction TOWNHOUSE, situated in the closed, western facade wall of the Nieuwe Boteringestraat, built circa 1870 in an eclectic architectural style, characteristic of the architecture from the third quarter of the nineteenth century. In front of the wooden front door with fanlight, which is provided with cushion panels and a cast-iron grille, lies a hard stone step of two treads. The entrance bay and the corners of the facade are provided with series of bevelled and rusticated diamond bosses in stucco. The facade is concluded by a profiled cornice, which carries a profiled gutter. In the front roof slope a broad wooden dormer of later date is inserted. The rear facade is erected from red brick and contains straight-topped T-windows. Internally still of importance the wooden staircase with richly carved wooden balusters in neo-renaissance design and the small stair passage to the raised front room with balusters in the same design. Evaluation TOWNHOUSE, provided with an entirely rendered cornice-topped facade with a fine decorative scheme in stucco, characteristic of the architecture from the third quarter of the nineteenth century, of general importance because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value because of the architectural integrity of the exterior and because of its significance for residential architecture from the third quarter of the nineteenth century. Moreover, the building forms a valuable architectural element in the differentiated built-up western facade wall of the Nieuwe Boteringestraat in Groningen.
