Inleiding KOETSHUIS MET BOVENWONING, gesitueerd in de gesloten zuidelijke gevelwand van het Akerkhof, gebouwd in 1897 in opdracht van P. Boerma naar ontwerp van de Groninger architect G. Nijhuis in een eclectische bouwstijl met elementen van de neo-gotiek en de neo-renaissance. Het koetshuisgedeelte is momenteel in gebruik als bedrijfruimte. Omschrijving Het brede gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een schilddak, belegd met een grijze kruispan. Op het schilddak zijn boven de brede traveeën kajuiten gemetseld, waarvan de meest rechtse een houten hijsbalk bevat. Boven de deur is een balkon in neo-barokstijl met smeedijzeren hekwerk. Introduction COACH HOUSE WITH UPPER DWELLING, situated in the closed southern facade wall of the Akerkhof, built in 1897 on commission of P. Boerma after a design by Groningen architect G. Description The broad building is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and comprises two storeys under a hipped roof, covered with grey interlocking tiles. On the hipped roof, above the broad bays, are built cabin-like structures in the form of small gabled top sections, the rightmost of which contains a wooden hoist beam. These cabin structures, designed as small pediments, have round-arched windows and are covered with slate. The facade consists of three broad bays and a narrow entrance bay. The facade is asymmetrical in design and constructed from yellow and orange facing brick on a sandstone plinth and provided with speckled courses across the full width. The facade is enlivened with dentil blocks and coloured masonry in the arch voussoirs. The left bay is approximately half a metre wider. The right bays are articulated by broad projecting wall piers which are provided with finely worked ornamental wrought-iron wall anchors. On the ground floor, the three broad bays contain double-leaf business doors, which are closed by a steel beam under a segmental arch. The braced doors with diagonally arranged cross bracing have wrought-iron grilles for the glass. The entrance bay contains the slightly recessed front door to the upper dwellings. Above the door is a balcony in neo-baroque style with wrought-iron railings. On the upper floor, the bays contain paired windows, which are closed segmentally; the door to the balcony has a round arch. The right bays have a cordon band below the windows.
