Inleiding
Evenwijdig aan de weg gelegen WOONHUIS, gebouwd in 1907 in Eclectische trant, ontworpen en uitgevoerd door R. Offringa uit Smilde in opdracht van W. van Veen. Het woonhuis verving het woongedeelte van een boerderij ter plekke. Rond 1925 werd een serre aangebouwd aan de zuidgevel. De schuur van de boerderij is vervangen door een kleine schuur die inmiddels (1992- 1993) weer door een nieuw exemplaar is vervangen. Deze schuur en de gewijzigde achtergevel vallen buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekige grondslag gebaseerd woonhuis bestaande uit een woonlaag en gedekt door een afgeknot schilddak belegd met pannen; vier schoorstenen met kappen; verkropte kroonlijst met decoratieve consoles. Risaliserende gevelopbouw met gepleisterde plint, gepleisterde gevels met schijnvoegen en pilastervormen met spaarvelden. Getoogde vensters met sluit- en aanzetstenen. Symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel met verhoogd middenstuk afgesloten door een verkropte kroonlijst.
Portiek met dubbele paneeldeur met naald en bovenlicht. Zuidgevel met jongere (vermoedelijk eerste kwart 20ste-eeuwse) houten serre met oorspronkelijke detaillering; glas-in-lood in bovenlicht; goot op klossen; helmvormige kap met zinkbedekking (lei- imitatie).

Dwelling house situated parallel to the road, built in 1907 in Eclectic style, designed and executed by R. Offringa from Smilde on commission of W. van Veen. The dwelling house replaced the dwelling section of a farmhouse on that site. Around 1925 a conservatory was added to the south gable. The barn of the farmhouse was replaced by a small barn which has meanwhile (1992-1993) been replaced by a new one. This barn and the altered rear gable fall outside the protection.

Dwelling house based on a rectangular ground plan consisting of a dwelling storey and covered by a truncated hipped roof tiled with tiles; four chimneys with caps; stacked cornice with decorative consoles. Risalited facade construction with plastered plinth, plastered facades with false joints and pilaster forms with spandrels. Arched windows with closing and setting stones. Symmetrically arranged front facade with raised central section terminated by a stacked cornice.
Portico with double panelled door with finial and fanlight. South gable with younger (presumably first quarter 20th-century) wooden conservatory with original detailing; stained glass in fanlight; gutter on brackets; helmet-shaped roof with zinc covering (slate imitation).
Valuation
Dwelling house of architectural-historical significance because of the striking design in relation to the surrounding buildings and as an architecturally image-defining object thereby at the same time of urban design significance.
