Dutch Reformed CHURCH with historic organ, built in 1868-1869 in Waterstaatsstyle and consecrated on 30 January 1870. Gable stone with inscription: "Built Anno 1869". In 1975-1976 the church was restored on behalf of the church wardens and executed by Van Veen's Construction Company (Bovensmilde). The interior is also of significance. Description

Hall church placed transversely on a rectangular ground plan, built in brick and covered by a hipped roof tiled with old Dutch tiles (black); cast-iron gutters with brackets (zinc-clad); rod anchors. The projecting western main entrance has a carefully renewed double panelled door with wooden frame whose main structure rests on decoratively worked consoles.

Following from bottom to top a coupled round-arched window with moulded frame, gutter on brackets, a threefold coupled attic light (round-arched windows of small format), a wooden roof turret with wooden shaft, an openwork bell platform, pediment-shaped roof edge and a wrought-iron weathervane. The brick facades are articulated by spandrels containing round-arched windows with stained glass in cast-iron frame. The north side has beneath the round-arched window a double panelled door with wooden frame.

INTERIOR

With basket-arch-shaped wooden vault with tie-rods. On the north side a gallery resting on four classically inspired wooden columns. On the gallery a one-manual organ, presumably built in 1684 for the Walloon church at Kampen. The organ builder is unknown. Judging from the pipe construction the maker must have come from eastern Netherlands or Westphalia. In 1809 substantially rebuilt by Lambertus van Dam. In 1897 installed in Bovensmilde by J. Proper from Kampen. At the relocation the organ was enlarged. At the restoration in 1988 the enlarged case was retained. The disposition of the instrument was restored to the state of 1809. On the side a shield with inscription: "Gift in remembrance of the memory of the Sichers family, Boven Smilde 4 June 1897 Brothers De Wal". The gallery rests on four classically inspired wooden columns with painted marbling. The wooden benches are arranged in arched groups around the easterly located baptismal enclosure with as centrepoint the pulpit (a suspended tub with flat panelwork and at the bottom a pomegranate; sounding board). On three sides raised benches are placed against the wall. Above the western draught door a round window with stained glass depicting Christ figure and inscription: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest".
