KEERMUUR, BORSTWERING EN TOEGANGSDAM AAN VOORPLEIN DOOR BINNENGRACHT. Rode bakstenen 17de-eeuwse walmuur in twee delen aan de noordzijde van het voorplein, die door de rechte met hardstenen platen beklede toegangsdam naar het huis wordt onderbroken. Aan de onderzijde is de muur in zandsteenblokken opgetrokken. De muur gaat over in een rode bakstenen borstwering met geprofileerde zandstenen afdekplaat, die het voorplein aan de noordzijde afsluit. Aan de linkerzijde van de toegangsdam, die naar het huis leidt, wordt de borstwering vanouds onderbroken door een rode bakstenen trap, die naar de gracht voert. In ca. 1933 werd de balustrade ontdaan van de aan het eind van de 19de eeuw gerealiseerde op regelmatige afstand van elkaar geplaatste verhogingen van de balustrade. Oorspronkelijk waren deze verhogingen, die wellicht als sokkels van vazen dienst deden, wel aanwezig, blijkens een tekening van Weldam uit 1732 (Huisarchief Weldam).

Description
RETAINING WALL, BALUSTRADE AND ACCESS DAM TO FORECOURT BY INNER MOAT. Red brick 17th-century wall in two sections on the north side of the forecourt, which is interrupted by the straight access dam faced with hardstone plates leading to the house. The wall is constructed of sandstone blocks on the underside. The wall transitions into a red brick balustrade with profiled sandstone coping plate, which closes off the forecourt on the north side. On the left side of the access dam, which leads to the house, the balustrade is interrupted from time immemorial by a red brick stair leading to the moat. In circa 1933 the balustrade was divested of the heightenings of the balustrade placed at regular intervals and realised at the end of the 19th century. These heightenings, which perhaps served as bases for vases, were originally present, as evidenced by a drawing of Weldam from 1732 (Weldam House Archive).
