Inleiding
In 1897 gebouwde SCHUTSLUIS, gelegen aan het begin van de Vijfde Wijk richting het oude Tweede Gesticht. Aangelegd in opdracht van Rijkswaterstaat en vermoedelijk ontworpen door de Hoofd-ingenieur van Rijkswaterstaat J. Strootman. De deels in onbruik geraakte sluis is nu in gebruik als stuw. Het betonnen element dat daartoe in de kolk is aangebracht valt buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
In eenvoudige en functionele stijl uitgevoerde schutsluis met groene kolk. De gemetselde en met natuurstenen dekzerken afgezette sluishoofden zijn uitgerust met gietijzeren haalkommen en bolders. In de sluishoofden respectievelijk de opschriften 1897 en 8.83 + NAP.
Waardering
Essentieel en functioneel onderdeel van het uitzonderlijk waardevolle complex Veenhuizen, architectonisch en stedebouwkundig van belang alsook van belang uit een oogpunt van de geschiedenis van de waterhuishouding van het complex Veenhuizen.

Introduction
LOCK GATE built in 1897, located at the beginning of the Fifth Quarter towards the old Second Institution. Constructed by order of Rijkswaterstaat and presumably designed by the Chief Engineer of Rijkswaterstaat J. Strootman. The partly disused lock is now used as a weir. The concrete element placed in the lock chamber for this purpose falls outside the protection.
Description
Lock gate executed in simple and functional style with green chamber. The mortared lock gates edged with natural stone coping are equipped with cast iron hauling rings and bollards. In the lock gates respectively the inscriptions 1897 and 8.83 + NAP.
Evaluation
Essential and functional component of the exceptionally valuable complex Veenhuizen, of architectural and urban design importance as well as of importance from the perspective of the history of water management of the complex Veenhuizen.
