Inleiding
SCHOOL met DRINK- en ZITPLAATS gebouwd in 1930-1931 in opdracht van de "Vereeniging school met den Bijbel" en in typerende Interbellum-stijl ontworpen door architect H. Beumer uit Arnhem. Gevelsteen met: "Eerste steen gelegd door J.G. Togtema. evangelist". De drink- en zitplaats is centraal voor het gebouw geplaatst. De bescherming betreft alleen het oorspronkelijke gedeelte van de school (en de srink- en zitplaats); de bijgebouwen vallen buiten de bescherming. De school is inmiddels in gebruik als Dagschool voor volwassenen.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekige grondslag gebaseerd schoolgebouw met twee klaslokalen, aan weerszijden een lagere vleugel. Het geheel bestaat uit een bouwlaag en wordt gedekt door een samengesteld schilddak bedekt met romaanse pannen; schoorstenen; dakkapel in voorste dakschild; goot met overstek. Gevelopbouw met trasraam en aangemetselde bloembak in donker blauwe klinkers (strengperssteen) en de opgaande buitengevels in genuanceerde strengperssteen (waalformaat van de fabriek N.V. Jurgens te Bingerden bij Doesburg); muurankers; symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel met twee viervoudig gekoppelde lokaalramen met zwaar kozijnhout en ongelijkmatige 6-ruits roedeverdeling in het grote, naar binnen vallende bovenlicht; gekoppelde 4-ruits ramen in de symmetrisch ingedeelde achtergevel; linker aanbouw met drievoudig gekoppeld smalle ramen; rechter aanbouw met portiek rustend op kolom en in de zijgevel een drievoudig gekoppelde 8-ruits ramen met vast kalf.
De DRINK- en ZITPLAATS ligt centraal voor het schoolgebouw, is gebaseerd op rechthoekige grondslag en bestaat uit een op beton gemetselde platte laag, opgaand metselwerk met verbreding voor de (inmiddels verdwenen) houten bank en achterwand in verticaal metselwerk waarin de (inmiddels verdwenen) kraan is opgenomen.
Waardering
School met bijbehorende drink- en zitplaats van cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en geestelijke ontwikkeling in een jonge ontginningsnederzetting; van architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de typologie, de sobere maar zorgvuldige vormgeving en vanwege de gaafheid.

SCHOOL with DRINKING AND SITTING AREA built in 1930-1931 commissioned by the "School Association with the Bible" and designed in characteristic Interwar style by architect H. Beumer from Arnhem. Description
Based on a rectangular ground plan, school building with two classrooms, on either side a lower wing. The whole consists of one storey and is covered by a composite hipped roof covered with Roman tiles; chimneys; dormer in the front roof slope; gutter with overhang. Facade construction with travertine ashlar and embedded flowerpot in dark blue bricks (machine-made brick) and the rising outer facades in nuanced machine-made brick (Dutch format from the factory N.V. Jurgens at Bingerden near Doesburg); wall anchors (ornamental); symmetrically arranged front facade with two quadruple-coupled classroom windows with heavy frame wood and irregular 6-pane glazing bars in the large, inset fanlight; coupled 4-pane windows in the symmetrically arranged rear facade; left extension with triple-coupled narrow windows; right extension with portico resting on column and in the side facade a triple-coupled 8-pane windows with fixed pane.
The DRINKING AND SITTING AREA lies centrally in front of the school building, is based on a rectangular ground plan and consists of a course laid on concrete, rising masonry with thickening for the (now vanished) wooden bench and rear wall in vertical masonry in which the (now vanished) tap is incorporated.
