Vrijstaande villa uit 1913, gebouwd door architect Joh. Mutters jr. in een historiserende bouwstijl en in oorsprong genaamd villa Tenrande (thans villa Arka).
Omschrijving
Villa op complexe plattegrond, bestaande uit twee bouwlagen onder een met leien gedekt schilddak. De bakstenen gevels zijn voorzien van een fries van metselmozaïek onder de gootlijst en terra cotta reliefs.
De ingang is tegen de noordgevel gesitueerd, in een aanbouw onder een tentdak. Boven de ingang is de naam van de villa in een hardstenen plaat aangebracht. Rechts hiervan bevindt zich een tweede, rechthoekige aanbouw onder een schilddak. Deze aanbouw is voorzien van een open portiek, rustend op een hoekpilaar en op consoles die een architraaflijst dragen. Kapiteel, consoles en architraaflijst zijn van hardsteen.
De gevel aan de zuidzijde is het rijkst uitgevoerd: een monumentaal bordes met flankerende trappen en een bakstenen sierbalustrade op de parterre, en een breed balkon rustend op bakstenen pilaren met hardstenen kapitelen op de verdieping. In de bakstenen buitenwand van het bordes is een fontein opgenomen. De muurdammen tussen de vensters van de parterre, die uitkijken op het bordes zijn bekleed met keramische wandtegels. Aan weerszijden bevinden zich driezijdig uitgebouwde erkers.
Tegen de oostgevel is op de tweede bouwlaag een breed bakstenen balkon met een hardstenen dekplaat, rustend op bakstenen consoles met hardstenen voet.
De westgevel bezit op de parterre een halfrond uitgebouwde erker met bakstenen borstwering.
De historiserende houten kruiskozijnen met hardstenen onderdorpels, bezitten voor het merendeel ramen in roedeverdeling en glas-in-lood, en zijn deels voorzien van luiken. De ver uitstekende gootlijst rust op dunne houten consoles en bezit een fijn tandlijstje langs de rand. Het dak is voorzien van dakkapellen met historiserende details, bakstenen hoekschoorstenen en pirons.
Het interieur bevat onder meer een hal met tegelwerk.
De tuin wordt van de straat gescheiden door een laag bakstenen muurtje, voorzien van vernieuwde hekpijlers met lantaarn.

Description
Villa on complex plan, consisting of two storeys under a slate-covered hipped roof. The brick facades are furnished with a frieze of brick mosaic beneath the drip moulding and terracotta reliefs.
The entrance is situated against the north facade, in an outbuilding under a tent roof. Above the entrance the name of the villa is inscribed on a stone plaque. To the right of this is a second, rectangular outbuilding under a hipped roof. This outbuilding is furnished with an open portico, resting on a corner pillar and on consoles carrying an architrave moulding. Capital, consoles and architrave moulding are of stone.
The south-facing facade is most richly executed: a monumental flight of steps with flanking stairways and a brick ornamental balustrade on the ground floor, and a broad balcony resting on brick pillars with stone capitals on the upper storey. A fountain is incorporated in the brick outer wall of the flight of steps. The wall sections between the ground floor windows, which overlook the flight of steps, are clad with ceramic wall tiles. On either side are three-sided projecting bays.
Against the east facade on the second storey is a broad brick balcony with a stone coping, resting on brick consoles with stone base.
The west facade possesses on the ground floor a semi-circular projecting bay with brick parapet.
The historicist wooden cross windows with stone sills, possess for the most part panes with glazing bars and leaded glass, and are partly furnished with shutters. The far projecting drip moulding rests on slender wooden consoles and possesses a fine small dentil moulding along the edge. The roof is furnished with historicist roof dormers with decorative detailing, brick corner chimneys and roof finials.
The interior contains among other things a hall with tilework.
The garden is separated from the street by a low brick wall, furnished with renewed gate pillars with lantern.
Valuation
Villa of cultural-historical value as a representative example of dwelling for the very wealthy in the 2nd decade of the 20th century in an urban villa park. Architecturally important as a valuable example of representative architecture in a historicist architectural style; main form, detailing and use of materials are intact. By virtue of its location at the corner of Tobias Asserlaan/Carnegielaan/Groot Hertoginnelaan the villa also has urban design value.
