Inleiding
Voormalig modemagazijn uit 1915 op de hoek van de Spuistraat en het Spui in de historiserende stijl van de "Um 1800- Beweging". Het ontwerp onder de naam "Magazijn Nederland" is van de architecten Simons en Van Braningen.
Omschrijving
Pand op onregelmatige plattegrond bestaande uit kelder en vier bouwlagen met kapverdiepingen onder een mansardekap. Aan het Spui telt het drie, aan de Spuistraat vier traveeën met elk drie gekoppelde vensters; de hoekpartij heeft een afgeronde vorm. Door toepassing van een ijzeren skeletconstructie konden de diverse ruimten flexibel worden ingedeeld.
De lijstgevels zijn geheel bekleed met zandsteen. De houten schuifvensters zijn gegroepeerd binnen rechthoekig omlijstevelden die aan de randen met een meandermotief zijn versierd. In de kap dakkapellen en op de hoek een lantaarnopbouw met koepelvormige bekroning. De winkelpui is vanaf de jaren vijftig meerdere malen gemoderniseerd. Van oorsprong was op de gehele begane grond de modewinkel en op de verdiepingen voornamelijk magazijnen; sinds 1980 is het grotendeels in gebruik als kantoor. Toen is ook de rechter travee aan de Spuistraat ter plaatse van de begane grond verzelfstandigd tot winkelruimte.

Pand van architectuurhistorische waarde als representatief voorbeeld van een in de stijl van de "Um 1800-Beweging" vormgegeven warenhuis. Cultuurhistorisch van waarde als een van de opvallendste uitingen van de cityvorming van de Haagse binnenstad, zoals die zich rond de eeuwwisseling heeft voltrokken. Building on an irregular plan consisting of basement and four storeys with attic storeys under a mansard roof. At the Spui it has three, on the Spuistraat four bays with each three coupled windows; the corner section has a rounded form. By application of an iron skeleton construction the various spaces could be flexibly arranged.
The cornice-topped facades are entirely clad with sandstone. The wooden sash windows are grouped within rectangularly framed fields which are decorated at the edges with a meander motif. In the roof dormer windows and on the corner a lantern construction with domed crest. The shop front has been modernised several times since the 1950s. Originally the fashion store occupied the entire ground floor and the upper storeys were mainly warehouses; since 1980 it has been largely in use as offices. At that time also the right bay on the Spuistraat at the ground floor level was separated to form a shop space.

Building of architectural-historical value as a representative example of a department store designed in the style of the "Um 1800 Movement". Of cultural-historical value as one of the most striking expressions of the city formation of the inner city of The Hague, as it occurred around the turn of the century.
