DUBBELE SLUISWACHTERSWONING, gebouwd rond 1880 in opdracht van Rijkswaterstaat en gelegen tegenover het eveneens beschermde schutsluiscomplex Sluis II.
Omschrijving
Eenvoudig en functioneel gebouwd dubbel woonhuis opgetrokken uit (deels gepleisterde) baksteen en gedekt door een schilddak met pan; nokschoorstenen. Symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel met risaliserende opbouw en verkropte kroonlijst, 6-ruits ramen met gebogen bovendorpel; deuren (in het midden) met bovenlicht. Voorgevel en gedeelte zijgevels met witte blokbepleistering. In het voorste schild een in baksteen opgetrokken dakkapel met 4-ruitsschuiframen. Het achterhuis heeft onder meer gietijzeren ramen (halfvensters); gele steen ter accentuering.
Waardering
Essentieel en karakteristiek onderdeel van het uitzonderlijk waardevolle gebied Veenhuizen. Voorts typologisch en stedebouwkundig van belang (vooral in relatie met het schutsluiscomplex Sluis II).

Simply and functionally built double residential house erected from (partly plastered) brick and covered by a hipped roof with pan tiles; ridge chimneys. Symmetrically laid out front facade with projecting construction and stepped cornice, 6-pane windows with curved upper lintel; doors (in the centre) with fanlight. Front facade and part of side facades with white block rendering. In the front slope a roof dormer built in brick with 4-pane sash windows. The rear house has among others cast-iron windows (half-windows); yellow brick for accentuation.
Evaluation
Essential and characteristic component of the exceptionally valuable area Veenhuizen. Furthermore typologically and urban-planning-wise significant (especially in relation to the lock complex Sluis II).
