Inleiding
De omstreeks 1915 gebouwd WINKEL annex WOONHUIS is gebouwd in een vooral in het tweede decennium van de twintigste eeuw in zwang zijnde bouwstijl, die verwant is aan het negentiende eeuwse (neo-)klassicisme en bekend staat als Um 1800-stijl. Het pand maakt deel uit van een vrijwel gesloten straatwand.
Omschrijving.
Het pand heeft twee en drie bouwlagen onder een grotendeels plat dak met aan weerszijden met tuiles du nord gedekte dakschilden. De symmetrische voorgevel is opgetrokken uit oranje en rode verblendsteen en wordt geleed door lisenen. De winkelpui is grotendeels vernield door ingrijpende wijzgingen, waardoor alleen de hardstenen muurdammen en plinten onder de rechter etalagevensters nog oorspronkelijk zijn. De rest van de façade is vrijwel geheel intact gebleven met handhaving van de rechtgesloten vensters met hardstenen onderdorpels en roedenverdeling in bovenlichten onder strekken. De hoger opgaande middenpartij met een tweede verdieping is vier-assig en heeft aan weerszijden een liseen die wordt bekroond door een hardstenen kapiteel met eierlijst. Deze middenpartij heeft een klassicistische gevelbeeindiging in de vorm van een entablement, waarboven een fronton met gepleisterd tympaan onder zadeldak. De lagere gevelpartijen zijn twee traveeën breed met op de verdieping twee keer twee rechtgesloten vensters onder een uitgemetseld gevelveld met keperfries. De hoger opgaande hoeklisenen worden bekroond door een hardstenen versiering met bol. Boven de uitkragende, op klampen steunende goten bevindt zich in beide, met muldenpannen gedekte dakschilden een originele houten dakkapel met fronton. De rechter zij- gevel en de achtergevel zijn opgetrokken in gewone machinale baksteen en zijn voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Waardering
Het karakteristieke pand is een eenvoudige, maar goede representant van een vroeg twintigste eeuwse bouwstijl, die overigens in de winkelarchitectuur weining werd toegepast. Het pand is derhalve van architectuurhistorisch belang en heeft tevens ensemblewaarde als beeldbepalend onderdeel van dit deel van het stadscentrum, dat behoort tot het beschermd stadsgezicht.

The symmetrical front facade is built of orange and red facing brick and is articulated by pilasters. The shopfront has been largely destroyed by substantial alterations, so that only the sandstone mullions and plinths below the right shop windows remain original. The rest of the facade has remained largely intact with the retention of flush windows with sandstone sills and glazing bars in fanlights under lintels. The higher central section with a second storey is four-bay wide and has on both sides a pilaster crowned by a sandstone capital with egg moulding. This central section has a classical gable termination in the form of an entablature, above which is a pediment with plastered tympanum under gabled roof. The lower gable sections are two bays wide with on the upper storey two by two flush windows under a tiled gable field with diaper bond. The higher rising corner pilasters are crowned by a sandstone ornament with a ball. Above the projecting gutters supported on brackets are in both roof sections covered with curved tiles original wooden roof dormers with pediment. The right side facade and rear facade are built of ordinary machine brick and are of subordinate importance for the protection.
Valuation
The characteristic property is a simple, but good representative of an early twentieth-century building style, which moreover was seldom applied in shop architecture.
