Inleiding
De CONSISTORIE is in de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw gebouwd tegen de achtergevel van de uit 1848 daterende hervormde Jozefkerk (apart monumentnummer 8411) in een bouwstijl die verwant is aan de neo-classicistische vormgeving van de kerk; daarmee sluit het gebouw in visueel opzicht goed op het kerkgebouw aan. De consistorie is door middel van een tussenlid verbonden met een huis aan de Kerkstraat, dat mogelijk heeft gediend als pastorie of kosterswoning van de Jozefkerk.
Omschrijving.
De consistorie heeft een verdieping met entablement onder een met pannen gedekt schilddak. De drie traveeën brede voorgevel is voorzien van lisenen met kapiteeltjes, waartussen zich twee hogere rechtgesloten zesruits (parterre) en drie lagere, eveneens rechtgesloten vensters onder rollaag bevinden. De brede entreepartij met terugliggende dubbele deur met roedenverdeling onder betonnen luifeltje en tweeruitsbovenlicht met rollaag, zowel als een deel van de gevel erboven is niet oorspronkelijk en waarschijnlijk bij een verbouwing in 1936 gewijzigd. De gevels worden beëindigd door een breed houten entablement met uitkragende kroonlijst. De vier traveeën tellende linker zijgevel heeft dezelfde lisenen en vensters als de voorgevel. Aan de achterzijde (Kerkstraat) is de gevelindeling van het pand op de verdieping identiek aan die van de voorgevel. De gevel is op de begane grond weggewerkt achter een detonerende, twintigste eeuwse aanbouw. Het interieur is volledig gemoderniseerd en niet vermeldenswaard.
Waardering
De in architectonisch opzicht aan het kerkgebouw aangepaste consistorie is van belang als onverbrekelijk daarmee verbonden bijgebouw en heeft derhalve grote ensemblewaarde. Het gebouw maakt tevens deel uit van het beschermd stadsgezicht Assen.

The CONSISTORY was built in the second half of the nineteenth century against the rear facade of the Reformed Jozefkerk dating from 1848 (separate national monument number 8411) in a building style related to the neo-classical design of the church; in this way the building visually fits well with the church building. The consistory is connected to a house on Kerkstraat by means of a linking section, which may have served as a rectory or sexton's dwelling of the Jozefkerk.
Description.
The consistory has an upper storey with entablature beneath a hipped roof covered with tiles. The three-bay wide front facade is provided with pilasters with capitals, between which are located two higher upright closed six-pane windows (ground floor) and three lower, also closed windows beneath roll moulding. The broad entrance section with recessed double door with glazing bars beneath concrete canopy and two-pane fanlight with roll moulding, as well as part of the facade above it, is not original and was probably altered in 1936. The facades are terminated by a broad wooden entablature with projecting cornice. The left side facade, counting four bays, has the same pilasters and windows as the front facade. On the rear side (Kerkstraat) the facade articulation of the property on the upper storey is identical to that of the front facade. The facade on the ground floor is obscured behind a clashing, twentieth-century extension. The interior has been completely modernized and is not noteworthy.
Valuation
The consistory, architecturally adapted to the church building, is of significance as an inseparable affiliated building and therefore has great ensemble value. The building also forms part of the protected townscape Assen.
