Inleiding
Het ca. 1895 in eclectische trant gebouwde WOONHUIS met lijstgevel is karakteristiek voor veel laat-negentiende eeuwse woonhuisarchitectuur met een representatief karakter en vormt een visuele eenheid met de er links van staande panden die in dezelfde periode zijn gebouwd, maar niet onder de bescherming vallen. Collardslaan 2 verdient als representant van de reeks bescherming.
Omschrijving.
Het vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken herenhuis heeft een verdieping onder een met platte friese pannen gedekt schilddak met schoorsteenschachten op nokhoeken en een originele houten dakkapel met getoogde bovenkant en vleugelstukken in het voorste dakschild. De gevels zijn verlevendigd met een gepleisterde plint, speklagen van gele baksteen, een geprofileerde cordonlijst en geblokte bakstenen lisenen. De getoogde vensters in beide bouwlagen, alsmede de entree worden geaccentueerd door strekken met gele baksteen en gepleisterde sluit- en aanzetstenen. De gevels worden beëindigd door een verkropt entablement met geprofileerde kroonlijst. De door lisenen gelede symmetrische voorgevel heeft in de middentravee een entree met stoep en niet originele deur in een getoogde portiek. De linker zijgevel is blind en voorzien van steunbeertjes. De rechter zijgevel heeft drie vensters als in de voorgevel en een kleiner venster. Het huis had oorspronkelijk aan de achterzijde een tot vlak boven de cordonlijst doorlopend dakschild. Dit is grotendeels rechtgetrokken en toont zich nu als een uitbouw met plat dak.
Waardering
Het huis is een vrij gaaf en goed voorbeeld van representatieve laat-negentiende eeuwse woonhuisarchitectuur. Het beeldbepalende pand vormt een visuele eenheid met de ernaast gelegen panden, die in dezelfde periode zijn gebouwd. Hierom en vanwege de ligging heeft het huis vooral ensemblewaarde. The DWELLING with cornice-topped facade, built circa 1895 in eclectic style, is characteristic of much late nineteenth-century residential architecture with a representative character and forms a visual unity with the properties standing to its left which were built in the same period, but do not fall under protection. Collardslaan 2 deserves protection as a representative of the series.
Description.
The townhouse, built from a rectangular ground plan, has an upper storey beneath a hipped roof covered with flat Frisian tiles with chimney shafts at ridge corners and an original wooden roof dormer with arched top and wing pieces in the front roof slope. The facades are enlivened with a plastered plinth, courses of yellow brick, a moulded cordon string and embossed brick pilasters. The arched windows in both storeys, as well as the entrance are accentuated by courses with yellow brick and plastered joint and setting stones. The facades are terminated by a modified entablature with moulded cornice. The symmetrical front facade, divided by pilasters, has in the central bay an entrance with steps and a non-original door in an arched portico. The left side facade is blind and provided with buttresses. The right side facade has three windows as in the front facade and a smaller window. The house originally had at the rear a hipped roof extending to just above the cordon string. This has been largely straightened and now appears as an extension with flat roof.
Valuation
The house is a fairly well-preserved and good example of representative late nineteenth-century residential architecture. The visually prominent property forms a visual unity with the adjoining properties, which were built in the same period. Because of this and because of its location, the house has particular ensemble value. The house also forms part of the protected townscape Assen.
