Omschrijving
"De Boschkant". Op pijlvormige grondslag in baksteen met gepotdekselde kapverdieping opgetrokken villa, oorspronkelijk genaamd "Boschkant", onder golvende rieten kap, bekroond door een schoorsteen bij de aansluiting van de veelhoekige O.partij en de smallere rechthoekige W.partij en aan de Z.zijde voorzien van een forse tweede schoorsteen, ontworpen in 1917-18 door C.J. Blaauw in Amsterdamse Schoolstijl als onderdeel van het villapark "Meerwijk". De ingang is in het smallere gedeelte van de N.gevel gesitueerd; in elk gevelvlak aangebrachte benedenvensters zijn alle van een geschulpte onderlijst voorzien - de oorspronkelijke horizontale roedenverdeling is thans verdwenen; de ruitvormige O.partij bevat op de hoeken steunberen met verzwaarde voeten, terwijl op de gepotdekselde kapverdieping de houten delen bij de hoeken in elkaar grijpen met kepervormige uiteinden; op de hoeken boven de steunberen zijn kleine wigvormige balcons gesitueerd, waarbij de doorgetrokken kap wordt gesteund door een geschulpte houten stijl, met extra bekroning bij de top; bij de tussenliggende N.O. en Z.O. zijde zijn twee wigvormige erkers uitgebouwd, die ten dele door bakstenen consoles worden ondersteund en ten dele door de gesneden dwarsbalken; de vensters van deze erkers bezitten nog de horizontale zesdelige roedenverdeling en geprofileerde omlijsting; de balcondeuren bezitten eveneens nog de horizontale roedenverdeling en zijn evenals de vensters in de zuidelijke dakkapel voorzien van een staande geschulpte omlijsting; deze dakkapel heeft nog een pendant aan de N.zijde. Aan de W.zijde is links nog een lage aangekapte schuur aangebouwd, met zij-ingang. Villa met voor de Amsterdamse Schoolstijl kenmerkende plastische vormen en toepassing van bijzondere metsel-details en geschulpte houten onderdelen, eigenzinnige kapvorm en markante schoorstenen en nadruk op afwisseling van bouwmaterialen - in casu baksteen en gepotdekselde delen en rieten kap -; voorts van belang als onderdeel van het als een geheel opgezette villapark met stilistisch verwante villa's - op initiatief van de Amsterdamse tegelhandelaar A. Heystee - en tevens als herinnering aan de toenmalige opkomst van Bergen als zomerverblijf, in het bijzonder voor kunstenaars.

Description
"De Boschkant". Villa constructed on arrow-shaped ground plan of brick with pitched-tile roof floor constructed in the roof space, originally named "Boschkant", under a wavy thatched roof, crowned by a chimney at the junction of the polygonal E. part and the narrower rectangular W. part and on the S. side provided with a substantial second chimney, designed in 1917-18 by C.J. Blaauw in Amsterdam School style as part of the villa park "Meerwijk". The entrance is situated in the narrower section of the N. facade; ground floor windows installed in each wall surface are all provided with a sculpted lower edge - the original horizontal glazing bar arrangement has now disappeared; the diamond-shaped E. part contains buttresses at the corners with reinforced bases, whilst on the pitched-tile roof floor the wooden parts interlock at the corners with rafter-shaped ends; small wedge-shaped balconies are situated at the corners above the buttresses, whereby the continued roof is supported by a sculpted wooden column, with extra crowning at the top; at the intermediate N.E. and S.E. sides two wedge-shaped oriels are projected, which are partly supported by brick consoles and partly by cut cross beams; the windows of these oriels still have the horizontal six-part glazing bar arrangement and profiled framing; the balcony doors likewise still have the horizontal glazing bar arrangement and are, like the windows in the southern roof dormer, provided with standing sculpted framing; this roof dormer has a counterpart on the N. side. On the W. side a low attached barn is constructed on the left, with side entrance. Villa with plastic forms characteristic of Amsterdam School style and application of special masonry details and sculpted wooden components, distinctive roof form and striking chimneys and emphasis on alternation of building materials - in this case brick and pitched-tile elements and thatched roof -; furthermore of significance as part of the villa park conceived as a whole with stylistically related villas - on the initiative of Amsterdam tile merchant A. Heystee - and also as a reminder of the contemporary rise of Bergen as a summer residence, in particular for artists.
