Inleiding.
Twee geschakelde machinistenwoningen uit 1883-1885 op U vormige plattegrond, onderdeel van het sluizencomplex en gemaal Houtrustweg naar ontwerp van J. van der Vegt in sobere eclectische trant. Omschrijving.
De voormalige machinistenwoningen bestaan uit begane grond en kapverdieping. Elke woning bezit een puntgevel aan de voorzijde met een geschubde, houten daklijst. De pannen daken hebben aan de achterzijde een schilddakvormige beëindiging. De bakstenen gevels vertonen de voor utiliteitsgebouwen uit deze periode kenmerkende vormgeving en materiaalbehandeling zoals banden van gele baksteen, versierde vensteromlijstingen met sluitstenen en gemetselde friezen. De vensters bezitten hardstenen vensterbanken en T-ramen. Waardering.

Two adjoining engine driver's houses from 1883-1885 on a U-shaped plan, part of the locks complex and pumping station Houtrustweg designed by J. van der Vegt in sober eclectic manner. Description.
The former engine driver's houses consist of ground floor and roof storey. Each house has a pointed gable on the front with a shingled wooden roof edge. The tiled roofs have a half-hipped roof finish at the rear. The brick facades display the characteristic form and material treatment of utility buildings from this period, such as bands of yellow brick, decorated window surrounds with keystones and moulded friezes. The windows have hardstone window sills and T-windows. Valuation.
The engine driver's houses are architecturally valuable as well as important as a functional component of the Houtrust pumping station and locks complex.
