Inleiding.
Vrijgelegen machinehuis uit 1883-1885 op rechthoekige plattegrond, onderdeel van het sluizencomplex en gemaal Houtrustweg naar ontwerp van J. van der Vegt in sobere neo-renaissance. Omschrijving.
Het machinehuis is langs de kademuur gesitueerd en telt een bouwlaag onder een met pannen gedekt zadeldak. De in schoon metselwerk opgetrokken gevels worden verlevendigd door natuurstenen banden. De korte gevels zijn uitgevoerd als trapgevels met hardstenen dekplaten. De gevel aan de waterzijde heeft drie houten rondboogvensters. Aansluitend aan de westgevel is het restant van het ketelhuis zichtbaar, dat eertijds ook door een trapgevel was afgesloten. Bij de verbouwing in 1913-1914 tot elektrisch gemaal werd het ketelhuis ingekort, terwijl de schoorsteen en de kolenloods werden gesloopt. De electromotoren en de pompen, die de stoommachine vervingen, zijn geleverd door de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Machinefabriek E.H. Begemann uit Helmond. Deze apparatuur is nog in het machinehuis aanwezig en is in 1970 buiten werking gesteld. Waardering.

Freestanding engine house from 1883-1885 on a rectangular plan, part of the locks complex and pumping station Houtrustweg designed by J. van der Vegt in sober neo-renaissance. Description.
The engine house is situated along the quay wall and consists of one storey beneath a gabled roof covered with tiles. The facades, constructed in fair-faced masonry, are enlivened by natural stone bands. The short facades are executed as stepped gables with hardstone coping. The facade on the water side has three wooden round-arch windows. Adjoining the west facade, the remainder of the boiler house is visible, which was formerly also terminated by a stepped gable. During the conversion in 1913-1914 into an electric pumping station, the boiler house was shortened, while the chimney and coal shed were demolished. The electric motors and pumps, which replaced the steam engine, were supplied by the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Machinefabriek E.H. Begemann from Helmond. This equipment is still present in the engine house and was taken out of service in 1970. Valuation.
