The register's description

PORTIERSWONING.

Cuypers ontworpen.

PORTER'S LODGE. Brick porter's lodge at the drive in neo-Renaissance style, consisting of a rectangular ensemble of a main house with T-shaped floor plan under a gabled roof, which is connected via a wing under a sloping roof with an extension under a gabled roof. The roofs are covered with grey tiles. To the southwest of the wing a small inner courtyard, which is bounded on its short NW and SE sides by the facades of the main house and the extension and on the SW side by a stone wall. Main house and extension are provided with stepped gables. On the tops of the stepped gables of the main house a heraldic lion with the arms of (Elisabeth Mary Countess) Van Reede (NE side), (Frederik William Child) Villiers (SE side) and of the Bentinck family (NW side).

Front facade: a double sash window with two times 18-pane configuration (extension), two sash windows with 30-pane configuration and in the top gable a sash window with 30-pane configuration (main house). Below the latter window is a hardstone stone tablet with the construction year of the porter's lodge: 1895. Right side facade (main house): at ground-floor level a double terrace door with 34-pane windows and 8-pane fanlights, preceded by a raised terrace with wrought-iron balustrade, with a flight of three steps. Terrace and stairs are paved with hardstone tiles. On the short side of the terrace a single terrace door with 48-pane configuration and 8-pane fanlight. In the part of the main house projecting at this side two sash windows with 30-pane configuration and in the top gable a sash window with 30-pane configuration. Rear facade: two double sash windows with two times 18-pane configuration and in the top gable a sash window with 30-pane configuration (main house). To the right of the main house a round-arch gateway on the SW side of the inner courtyard and to the right of this a double sash window with two times 18-pane configuration (extension). Left side facade: in the top gable of the main house a sash window with 30-pane configuration. The windows are surrounded at the top by a blind round arch with masonry mosaic in the arch field. On the main house this arch field recesses slightly into the facade plane. On the parts of the windows below the intermediate transoms green-bordered shutters with hourglass motif in Bentinck colours (blue-white) are fitted. On the NE, SE and NW sides wrought-iron wall anchors with rich volute-shaped profiles are placed.

As such the rectangular ensemble of main house, wing, walled inner courtyard and extension with stepped gable and wall anchors is an eclectic variation on a Dutch Renaissance gentleman's house from the second half of the 16th century.

The porter's lodge was possibly designed by the architect P.J. Cuypers.
