Omschrijving
CHINESE TOREN. Zogenaamde "Chinese toren" op vierkante grondslag met op de hoeken een kegelvormige pijler in rode baksteen, die tot de eerste verdieping reikt. De toren is tot ongeveer anderhalve meter onder de houten daklijst bekleed met gevlochten rieten matten en wordt bekroond door een tentdak. De daklijst keert als omgaande loden cordonlijst terug tussen de beganegrond en eerste verdieping.
De ingangszijde is centraal aan de noordzijde gesitueerd en bestaat uit een rechthoekige doorgang met afgeschuinde hoeken. Er boven een decoratief patroon van drie ronde gevlochten schilden en drie driehoekige openingen.
Zuidzijde: een centraal gelegen aan de noordzijde van de toren identieke ingang met erboven een decoratief patroon van twee ronde gevlochten schilden aan weerszijden van een ruitvormige opening.
Oostzijde: een ingebouwde nis met erboven een decoratief patroon van twee ronde gevlochten schilden, twee driehoekige en een ruitvormige opening.
De toren, waarvan de vormgeving en stilistische details wel met die van Afrikaanse hutten in verband gebracht zou kunnen worden, werd vermoedelijk gebouwd in de periode van Charles Louis Adrien Juste graaf van Limburg Stirum (1877-1931) en bevindt zich in de NW-hoek van de parkaanleg. Description
CHINESE TOWER. So-called "Chinese tower" on a square plan with on the corners a conical pillar in red brick, which reaches to the first storey. The tower is clad to approximately one and a half metres below the wooden eave with woven reed matting and is crowned by a tent roof. The eave returns as a continuous lead cordon between the ground floor and first storey.
The entrance side is located centrally on the north side and consists of a rectangular passage with chamfered corners. Above it a decorative pattern of three round woven shields and three triangular openings.
South side: a centrally located entrance identical to that on the north side of the tower with above it a decorative pattern of two round woven shields on either side of a diamond-shaped opening.
East side: a built-in niche with above it a decorative pattern of two round woven shields, two triangular and one diamond-shaped opening.
The tower, the form and stylistic details of which could well be related to those of African huts, was probably built during the period of Charles Louis Adrien Juste Count van Limburg Stirum (1877-1931) and is located in the NW corner of the park layout. The tower has recently been restored.
