Inleiding.
Pakhuis, gebouwd in 1901 voor de firma in verwarming en sanitair J. Hoogeveen en Co., naar ontwerp van W.B. van Liefland in de stijl van de Weense Sezession.
Omschrijving.
Pakhuis op rechthoekige plattegrond in de stijl van de Weense Sezession, gelegen tussen een aaneengesloten bebouwing langs het water van de Veenkade. Het pand telt vier bouwlagen onder een plat dak. De voorgevel opgetrokken in verblendsteen is rijk gedecoreerd; de vormen zijn deels ontleend aan de Weense Sezession. De interpretatie van deze stijl is nergens letterlijk, maar is een eigen experimenteren met nieuwe vormen en materialen die geïnspireerd zijn op buitenlandse voorbeelden. Dit is duidelijk zichtbaar bij de vensteromlijstingen en de klokvormige boog van de bovenste bouwlaag. De gevel is opgebouwd uit verdiepte en naar voren komende vlakken, waarbij twee kleuren baksteen is toegepast. Natuursteen is in de gevel gebruikt voor de plint, de omlijsting van de hoefijzervormige entree, negblokken, speklagen en de geveltop. In de geveltop is een brede gevelsteen met het opschrift "J. Hoogeveen en Co. B.V. verwarming en sanitair". Boven de bedrijfsingang is eveneens een gevelsteen met de naam van de firma. Op de verdiepingen zijn brede houten vijflicht vensters, waarvan met name de roedeverdeling in Sezessionstijl van het venster op de vierde bouwlaag opvalt. De ingang op de begane grond heeft twee authentieke houten paneeldeuren. Het interieur is sober uitgevoerd met ongedeelde pakruimten. Delen van oorspronkelijke afscheidingen voor kantoorruimten zijn bewaard gebleven.

Warehouse on rectangular plan in the style of the Vienna Secession, situated between contiguous buildings along the water of the Veenkade. The building comprises four storeys beneath a flat roof. The front facade built in facing brick is richly decorated; the forms are partly derived from the Vienna Secession. The interpretation of this style is nowhere literal, but is an independent experimentation with new forms and materials inspired by foreign examples. This is clearly visible in the window surrounds and the bell-shaped arch of the upper storey. The facade is built up from recessed and projecting planes, using two colours of brick. Natural stone is used in the facade for the plinth, the surround of the horseshoe-shaped entrance, quoins, banding courses and the gable top. In the gable top is a broad facade stone inscribed "J. Hoogeveen and Co. B.V. heating and sanitary". Above the business entrance is likewise a facade stone with the name of the firm. On the storeys are broad wooden five-light windows, of which in particular the glazing bars in Secession style of the window on the fourth storey stand out. The entrance on the ground floor has two authentic wooden panelled doors. The interior is soberly executed with undivided storage spaces. Parts of original partitions for office rooms have been preserved.
