Inleiding.
Voormalige gemeenteapotheek uit 1885-1886 in internationaal georienteerde neo-renaissance op de hoek van de Prinsestraat en Molenstraat, ontworpen door de architect-directeur van Gemeentewerken B. Reinders. Omschrijving.
Pand op rechthoekige plattegrond bestaande uit parterre en twee verdiepingen onder een met shingles gedekte mansardekap. De bakstenen gevels met tal van natuurstenen onderdelen zijn opvallend rijk geornamenteerd. Natuursteen is onder meer toegepast voor de plint, waterlijsten, hoekkettingen en geprofileerde raamomlijstingen. De gevels waarin T-vensters zijn opgenomen worden beëindigd door een fors hoofdgestel met klossen en tandlijst. Op de begane grond zijn rondboogvensters, de 1e verdieping heeft flauw getoogde kozijnen en op de 2e verdieping een rechte beëindiging. De gevel aan de Prinsestraat is zes vensterassen breed, de gevel aan de Molenstraat telt vier vensterassen. De hoek wordt geaccentueerd door een halfronde hoekpartij, voorzien van pilasters en twee balkons op gebeeldhouwde voluutconsoles en wordt bekroond door een met zink gedekt koepeldak met oeil-de-boeuf waarop een gebogen fronton. De gevel aan de Prinsestraat heeft een risalerende ingangstravee, die geaccentueerd wordt door pilasters vanaf de 1e verdieping en paarsgewijs onder de verkropte kroonlijst geplaatste consoles. In het fries is hier in natuurstenen letters de tekst "Gemeente Apotheek" aangebracht. In deze as verder een extra rijk omlijst raam boven de ingang voorzien van pilasters en schild met Haags wapen en rijk gesneden houten neo-renaissance deuren in de ingang. De gevel aan de Molenstraat heeft een identieke risalerende ingangstravee als die van de Prinsestraat. Waardering.
Pand van architectuurhistorisch belang als waardevol voorbeeld van een op een internationaal georienteerde neo-renaissancestijl vormgegeven gemeenteapotheek. Building on a rectangular plan consisting of ground floor and two storeys under a mansard roof with shingle covering. The brick facades with numerous natural stone components are conspicuously richly ornamented. Natural stone is applied among others for the plinth, drip mouldings, corner chains and profiled window surrounds. The facades in which T-windows are incorporated are terminated by a substantial main entablature with corbels and dentil course. On the ground floor are round-arch windows, the 1st storey has slightly arched frames and on the 2nd storey a straight termination. The facade on Prinsestraat is six bays wide, the facade on Molenstraat has four bays. The corner is accentuated by a semicircular corner section, furnished with pilasters and two balconies on sculptured volute corbels and is crowned by a dome roof with copper covering topped by an oeil-de-boeuf and a curved pediment. The facade on Prinsestraat has a projecting entrance bay, which is accentuated by pilasters from the 1st storey and consoles placed in pairs under the broken cornice. In the frieze here is inscribed in natural stone letters the text "Gemeente Apotheek". In this axis further an extra richly framed window above the entrance furnished with pilasters and shield with The Hague coat of arms and richly carved wooden neo-Renaissance doors in the entrance.
