Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Vrijstaande villa uit 1876 in eclectische stijl op samengestelde plattegrond. De villa wordt door een deels verharde tuin van de straat gescheiden. Als vrijstaande villa heeft het een afwijkend karakter omdat de overige bebouwing in het Zeeheldenkwartier uit aaneengesloten woningen bestaat.
NB.Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich een aanbouw uit 1937. Deze aanbouw valt, evenals het recentelijk vernieuwde tuinhek, niet onder de bescherming.
Omschrijving.
Het pand heeft een parterre en hoge verdieping. Het dak is uit omgaande dakschilden en een plat deel samengesteld. De gevels aan de Van de Spiegelstraat en de Van Speijkstraat zijn vijf vensterassen breed en in schoon metselwerk opgetrokken met gepleisterde vensteromlijstingen, hoekpilasters en sierbanden. De gevel aan de Van Speijkstraat heeft een driezijdig uitgebouwde middenpartij waarvan de parterre als uitbouw van een bouwlaag verder is doorgetrokken. De hoofdentree met getoogde deuromlijsting bevindt zich aan de Van de Spiegelstraat. Deze wordt omkaderd door een middenrisaliet met rusticabepleistering. Hierboven is een balkon dat door rijk geornamenteerde voluutconsoles gedragen wordt. De gevel heeft hoekpilasters die beneden geblokt en boven met verdiepte schachten uitgevoerd zijn. Het hoofdgestel heeft versierde voluutconsoles en panelen in de fries en guttae onder de kroonlijst.
Uit de bouwtijd resteren verscheidene interieuronderdelen waaronder een zaal met een rijke Neo Lodewijk XIV schoorsteen- mantel en stucplafond.
Waardering.
De villa is van architectuurhistorisch waarde; er is sprake van gaafheid van hoofdvorm, detaillering en het toegepaste materiaal, zowel wat betreft het exterieur als gedeelten van het interieur. Een toegevoegde waarde wordt gevormd door de stedebouwkundig ligging op een belangrijk punt aan een van de best bewaard gebleven en karakteristieke straten van het Zeeheldenkwartier.

Detached villa from 1876 in eclectic style on a composite plan. The villa is separated from the street by a partially paved garden. As a detached villa it has a distinctive character because the remaining buildings in the Zeeheldenkwartier consist of terraced dwellings.
NB. At the rear there is an extension from 1937. This extension, as well as the recently renewed garden gate, is not protected.
Description.
The building has a ground floor and a high first floor. The roof is composed of hipped roof tiles and a flat section. The facades on Van de Spiegelstraat and Van Speijkstraat are five window bays wide and are constructed in fair-faced brickwork with plastered window surrounds, corner pilasters and decorative bands. The facade on Van Speijkstraat has a three-sided projecting central section, the ground floor of which extends further as a projection of a storey. The main entrance with a round-arched door surround is located on Van de Spiegelstraat. This is framed by a central risalit with rusticated plaster. Above this is a balcony supported by richly ornamented scroll consoles. The facade has corner pilasters which are rusticated below and executed with recessed shafts above. The main entablature has ornamented scroll consoles and panels in the frieze and guttae beneath the cornice.
Several interior components survive from the building period, including a room with a richly decorated Neo Louis XIV fireplace mantel and stuccoed ceiling.
Valuation.
The villa has architectural historical value; there is integrity of main form, detailing and the materials used, both as regards the exterior and parts of the interior. Added value is provided by its urban location at an important point on one of the best preserved and characteristic streets of the Zeeheldenkwartier.
