Inleiding.
Vrijstaand herenhuis uit 1846 op vierkante plattegrond in de neoclassicistische traditie naar ontwerp van J.E. Ellinkhuizen. In 1886 verbouwd door Jac. Vos.
Omschrijving.
Het langs het water van de Mauritskade gelegen herenhuis bestaat uit souterrain, beletage en verdieping onder een met leien gedekt omlopend schilddak; vijf traveeën breed en zes traveeen diep.
De bakstenen lijstgevels vertonen gepleisterde cordon- en waterlijsten en een gepleisterd hoofdgestel. De voorgevel bezit een hardstenen plint met een afsluitende cordonlijst in hetzelfde materiaal. Het hoofdgestel bezit hier op de hoeken en boven de middenas paarsgewijs geplaatste, met draperieen versierde voluutconsoles. Het souterrain, dat slechts aan de linker zijgevel en de achterzijde zichtbaar is, bezit een geblokte bepleistering en heeft in de zijgevel liggende vensters. De achtergevel is geheel bepleisterd. De deurpartij in de middentravee van de voorgevel heeft een rijk gedecoreerde neo-renaissance deur met bovenlicht in een geprofileerde omlijsting, bekroond door een fronton op voluutconsoles. In het dak is ter hoogte van de ingangstravee een houten dakkapel. Deze wordt geflankeerd door twee in zink uitgevoerde 'oeil-de-boeufs'. Tegen de achtergevel op de hoogte van de beletage een houten erker op versierde houten voluutconsoles, voorzien van een gootlijst met lambrequin-achtige decoratie. Tegen de linkertravee van de achtergevel een haaks op het pand geplaatste veranda van hout, eveneens met bewerkte gootlijst en berging eronder. Het achtererf wordt aan de wallekant beveiligd door een gietijzeren hek uit de bouwtijd van het pand. Langs de voorgevel is een stoep met zes bewerkte hardstenen stoeppalen.
Het interieur bevat een trap met een door decoratieve ijzeren spijlen ondersteunde leuning en een met snijwerk versierde trappaal, daterend van de verbouwing rond 1866. Voorts zijn er enkele vertrekken met Eclectische stucplafonds.
Waardering.
Herenhuis met stoeppalen, ijzeren hekwerk en interieuronderdelen uit de bouwtijd van architectuurhistorisch belang als een waardevol voorbeeld van woonhuisarchitectuur in de neoclassicistische traditie. Description.
The mansion situated along the water of the Mauritskade consists of a basement, piano nobile and first floor beneath a hipped roof clad with slate; five bays wide and six bays deep.
The brick cornice-topped facades display plastered cordon and drip mouldings and a plastered cornice. The front facade possesses a hardstone plinth with a closing cordon moulding in the same material. The cornice has ornamental wall anchors decorated with drapery placed in pairs at the corners and above the central axis. The basement, which is visible only on the left side facade and the rear, features blocked plastering and has windows on the side facade. The rear facade is entirely plastered. The door feature in the central bay of the front facade has a richly decorated neo-Renaissance door with fanlight in a moulded surround, crowned by a pediment on ornamental wall anchors. In the roof at the height of the entrance bay is a wooden dormer. This is flanked by two zinc 'oeil-de-boeufs'. Against the rear facade at the height of the piano nobile a wooden oriel on decorated wooden ornamental wall anchors, fitted with a cornice moulding with lambrequin-like decoration. Against the left bay of the rear facade a veranda of wood placed at right angles to the building, likewise with worked cornice moulding and storage beneath. The rear courtyard is secured at the water's edge by a cast-iron fence from the time of construction of the building. Along the front facade is a pavement with six worked hardstone bollards.
The interior contains a staircase with a handrail supported by decorative iron balusters and a staircase post decorated with carving, dating from the remodelling around 1866. Furthermore there are several rooms with Eclectic stucco ceilings.
Valuation.
Mansion with bollards, iron fencing and interior components from the time of construction of architectural historical importance as a valuable example of residential architecture in the neoclassical tradition. An important added value is the defining visual situation at the corner of Frederikstraat and the water channel of the Mauritskade.
