Inleiding.
Bouwblok op rechthoekige plattegrond uit 1882-1883 op de hoek van de Frederikstraat en Prinses Mariestraat bestaande uit vier casco's met vier winkels en bovenhuizen, ontworpen door A. Stigter in neo-renaissancestijl.
Omschrijving.
Het als architectonische eenheid opgezette bouwblok, bestaat uit vier casco's met oorspronkelijk vier winkels en vier bovenhuizen bestaande uit parterre, twee verdiepingen en kapverdieping in een omlopend, afgeknot schilddak.
In het totaal telt het complex aan de Prinses Mariestraat elf en aan de Frederikstraat vijf vensterassen waarvan die op de hoek is afgeschuind. De gevels zijn deels gepleisterd en deels in schoon metselwerk opgetrokken en bijzonder rijk geornamenteerd.
De middelste twee traveeën van nr. 8/10 aan de Frederikstraat zijn als risaliet uitgevoerd en hebben op de begane grond muurdammen met diamantkoppen met afsluitend dorische kapitelen, voorts op de eerste en tweede verdieping bakstenen pilasters met composiete kapitelen.
De parterre van de Frederikstraat 8/10 bezit een geblokte bepleistering en aan weerszijden van de getoogde ingang op sokkels geplaatste dorische muurzuilen die door middel van voluutconsoles met bladornament een rechthoekige erker dragen. Voor het overige zijn alleen de gevel van 7/7a, de hoekpartij en de sierlijsten die de bouwlagen afsluiten bepleisterd.
De erker heeft een drieledig venster met blinde balustrade, geflankeerd door gecanneleerde op sokkels geplaatste ionische pilasters en bekroond door een dubbel festoen in het stucwerk. De erker draagt een balkon met balustrade; het venster hierboven wordt geflankeerd door gecanneleerde pilasters met composiete kapitelen.
De ingang van Frederikstraat 10 is getoogd met een in neo-renaissance versierde deur, voorzien van een sierrooster en een bovenlicht, in de rechter vensteras. Prinses Mariestraat 3/5, 7/7a en 7b/7c vormen een symmetrisch geheel waarvan de buitenste twee huizen als risalieten zijn opgevat en een pilasterordonnantie hebben zoals de risaliet van de Frederikstraat 8/10. De parterre van deze drie panden bevatten drie winkelpuien, de middelste is getoogd en heeft een sluitsteen met maskerkop en wordt geflankeerd door een deur voor het woonhuis en een deur voor de winkel.
De brede middenas van nr. 7/7a heeft per verdieping pilasters, boven het drieledige venster van de verdieping een cartouche met het bouwjaar 1882 en een segmentvormig gebroken fronton met daarin een blinde balustrade. Ook het hoekpand bezit in de schuine travee en de risaliet dergelijke consoles onder het geprofileerde hoofdgestel dat de gevel bekroont. Het omlopende schilddak heeft boven de hoektravee en de risalieten hoger opgetrokken partijen met niet authentieke dakkappellen.
De vensters zijn gevat in geprofileerde omlijstingen met sluitstenen en hebben onverdeelde bovenlichten of bovenlichten waarin glas-in-lood is geplaatst. De balustrades onder de vensters op de eerste verdieping zijn blind.

The building block conceived as an architectural unity consists of four shell structures with originally four shops and four dwellings above consisting of ground floor, two storeys and attic storey beneath a hipped roof with truncated corners.
In total the complex has eleven window axes on the Prinses Mariestraat and five on the Frederikstraat of which the one at the corner is chamfered. The facades are partly plastered and partly executed in fair-faced brickwork and are particularly richly ornamented.
The middle two bays of no. 8/10 on Frederikstraat are executed as a risalit and have on the ground floor wall strips with diamond studs with closing Doric capitals, furthermore on the first and second floors brick pilasters with Composite capitals.
