Inleiding.
Vrijliggend en direct aan de straat grenzend Ministerie van Landbouw, Nijverheid en Handel, gebouwd op complexe plattegrond door D.E.C. Knuttel in 1917 en geinspireerd op het Hollands Classicisme uit de 17e eeuw.
Omschrijving.
Het gebouw is in schoon metselwerk opgetrokken met een in rustica uitgevoerde parterre en telt vier bouwlagen onder met leien gedekte schilddaken. De overstekende kroonlijst met zware klossen geeft een duidelijke scheiding tussen gevel en kapverdieping.
De opzet van de voorgevel is symmetrisch. De gevelwand telt over alle bouwlagen, de zolderverdieping niet meegerekend, 21 vensterassen. Twee vooruitspringende hoekrisalieten met drie vensterassen flankeren de vijf vensterassen brede middenrisaliet. In de schilden van de kapverdieping zijn dakkapellen opgenomen. Op elke hoek van een risaliet zijn geblokte lisenen aangebracht; bij de middenrisaliet ook aan weerszijde van de buitenste vensterassen.
Het type venster is het houten kruiskozijn m.u.v. die van de dakkappellen. Op de eerste verdieping zijn voor de vensters van de risalieten natuurstenen balustrades aangebracht. De dorpels, de posten, de monelen van de vensters, de hoeklisenen en de bekleding van de gevelwand op de begane grond waarin een rondboog als ingang is opgenomen, zijn in natuursteen uitgevoerd. Op de eerste verdieping, direct boven de ingang, staan op sokkels vier in natuursteen uitgevoerde beelden.
Het interieur is monumentaal ingericht en omvat onder meer decoratie's in de stijl van de Um-1800 Bewegung en op het Oosten geinspireerde ornamentiek.
Waardering.
Het Ministeriegebouw is cultuurhistorisch van waarde als uitdrukking van de landelijke, bestuurlijke ontwikkeling. Architectuurhistorisch is het waardevol als een goed bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van de representatieve overheidsarchitectuur uit deze periode.

Freestanding Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Trade building directly bordering the street, built on a complex ground plan by D.E.C. Knuttel in 1917 and inspired by 17th century Dutch Classicism.

The building is constructed in fair-faced brickwork with a rusticated ground floor and comprises four storeys under hipped roofs covered with slate. The projecting cornice with heavy consoles provides a clear separation between the facade and the roof storey.
The arrangement of the front facade is symmetrical. The facade wall has 21 window bays across all storeys, not counting the attic storey. Two projecting corner risalits with three window bays flank the five-bay-wide central risalit. Roof dormers are incorporated in the pediments of the roof storey. On each corner of a risalit blocked pilasters are applied; at the central risalit also on either side of the outer window bays.
The window type is the wooden cross window except for those of the roof dormers. On the first floor, natural stone balustrades are placed in front of the windows of the risalits. The sills, posts, mullions of the windows, the corner pilasters and the cladding of the facade wall on the ground floor, which incorporates a round arch as entrance, are executed in natural stone. On the first floor, directly above the entrance, four sculptures executed in natural stone stand on plinths.
The interior is furnished in a monumental manner and includes among other things decorations in the style of the Secession movement and ornaments inspired by the Orient.
Valuation.
