Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Lursen.

Description
Introduction.
Detached villa surrounded by a garden from 1935-1936 in the style of the Nieuwe Bouwen. The villa was designed by J.W.E. Buijs and J.B. Lursen on behalf of Mr. C.J. Leembruggen.
Description.
The villa from 1935-1936 on a composite plan is composed of several building masses of one, two and three storeys, all beneath flat roofs. Care was taken to ensure that virtually every room has access to a terrace or balcony. Through these balconies and terraces the villa gives the impression of consisting of interpenetrating cubes. This aesthetic play is particularly strong on the south and west elevations, where broad concrete bands, which mark the balcony and terrace, provide a horizontal effect. The striking vertical concrete element in the southwest corner is not a chimney or an important division in the structure of the plan but serves purely the aesthetic composition. All windows are made of steel. The cladding of the elevations consists of tilework; the lower structure of light grey and the upper structure of yellow tiles. The garden side, on the other hand, is entirely yellow. Tile cladding was regarded in the nineteen thirties as the most modern, indeed revolutionary cladding material for elevations.
Characteristic is the practical plan whereby attention was paid to good placement of the living spaces in relation to the sun, while the original service rooms were situated on the north side. The interior, with many corridors and passages, has a central corridor with a staircase, around which originally on the ground floor on the south side was the large living room, on the west side the dining room and in the middle on the north side the kitchen. On the second storey the southern section is occupied by a roof terrace. The grouping of the interior spaces is still extremely conventional while the exterior displays a progressive design of modern building.
Valuation.
The detached villa is architecturally valuable as a progressive example of the Nieuwe Bouwen and because of the revolutionary use of tiles as facade cladding. Also of importance within the development of the oeuvre of architects J.W.E. Buijs and J.B. Lursen.
