Complex van sluizen met kolk, sluisdeuren met handbediening en leuningwerk, kademuren en draaibare voetgangersbrug.
Rond 1554 werd op deze plaats reeds een schut- of schotdeur aangebracht om de waterstand binnen de stad te kunnen regelen.
Rond 1613 werd hiervoor in de plaats een echte schutsluis aangelegd, een project waarvoor Lieven de Key wordt aangetrokken. Deze sluis regelt niet alleen de stadswaterhuishouding maar maakt ook deel uit van een militair inundatiesysteem.
Als in 1821 besloten wordt de waterweg van Amsterdam naar Vreeswijk te verbeteren, moet ook de Weerdsluis verbreed en verdiept worden en hiermee krijgt de sluis, zijn huidige verschijningsvorm.
Nog steeds zorgt de sluis voor, het waterpeil in de Utrechtse grachten en hiermee is zij de pendant van de sluis te Vreeswijk.
Het complex is van historisch belang en tevens van belang als voorbeeld van een monument van bedrijf en techniek.

Description
Complex of locks with lock chamber, lock gates with hand operation and railwork, quay walls and rotating pedestrian bridge.
Around 1554 a lock or sluice gate was already installed at this location to regulate the water level within the city.
Around 1613 a true lock was installed in its place, a project for which Lieven de Key was brought in. This lock not only regulates the city's water management but also forms part of a military inundation system.
When in 1821 a decision was made to improve the waterway from Amsterdam to Vreeswijk, the Weerdsluis also had to be widened and deepened and with this the lock acquired its present appearance.
Still the lock regulates the water level in the Utrecht canals and with this it is the counterpart of the lock at Vreeswijk.
The complex is of historical importance and also of importance as an example of a monument of industry and engineering.
